It hurts JLin, no matter when the statement was made. In fact, Obama praised Lin after the winning shot vs Raptors, and ironically he made this statement to against Lin. What is Obama's true value? I guess no. As long as he gets to win, he can say anything even it is not true. Lin shouldn't help Obama to run the '1 is 2 many'.

The most famous/violent incident is probably the LA Riots in 1992. You can make a lot of different arguments about what caused those riots, but there was definitely underlying resentment/racism by the Black/Hispanic community against Koreans. You need to stop living in a bubble. There is a long history of racism in America. Blacks, Whites, Asians, Hispanics, etc. all have been at both sides of the racism table.
