when you've never been taught how to it's a daunting task. i'm not afraid of water and tried to learn on my own. i can swim a short distance. what i can't do is tread water. i've tried learning from youtube as someone earlier suggested. it's hard not to panic when you don't trust yourself or the people around to rescue you.

that's crazy. And I never took swim lessons as a kid. The way I learned how to swim was being thrown into a river at the age of 6. I guess I just thought everyone naturally knew how to swim(of course it takes practice to be a good swimmer).

I work for a Medical Equipment company that provides services to special needs children. Could you email me your information? fanguiano@healthcsa.com. I also visit several children's hospitals and this comes up every now and then. I'd love to add you to as a resource if you are stil willing to teach these children. Thanks in advance!

I commend you for wanting to learn how to swim. I think swimming should be taught to all children in school. I believe people would be surprised at how many adults don't know how to swim. I think just about anyone can swim well with proper training. Maybe a little bit like riding a bike. It seems difficult at first, but then it becomes simple.

I don't know how to swim. I know why though, I was a p***y when I was a kid and was scared of the water. I remember one time I just went into the pool as a kid and then got scared I had to hang onto another guy's underwear just to keep afloat.

I need to learn how to float first and foremost, I feel like if I learn how to float in water it'd be easy to learn how to swim.

Nah, learning to float (in other words treading water) is harder to learn than regular swimming strokes IMO, if anything go to a pool that isn't very shallow and just practice trying to do laps.

First thing you do in CWS is tread water for 5 minutes. I just laid on my back and floated around.

Im pretty sure at Army Ranger school (or Marine Recon, one of the two) you have to tread water for something crazy. I want to say over an hour, but I believe its closer to two.

But seriously, if you want to learn how to swim or tread water, I will show you free of charge. Just a matter of you driving up to Humble.

The Marine Recon are the ones where you have to tread water forever. In Army Ranger school, they just make you swim 50 meters in full combat uniform including boots on.

I watched the surviving the cut episode on them and the first day for like 8 hours its nothing but swim quake. Tread water for hours, then swim forever, then go get the weight off the bottom of the pool. Guys were passing out having seizures it was nuts.

    No thanks

I can't float but I do know how to swim. I might tire easily but I can swim away if a jelly fish is trying to sting my ass or something. And no one really taught me...which is why I believe everyone knows how to swim since it's so easy. Just use common knowledge and scoop water with your hand towards you and paddle your feet. I mean, come on, bruh. :)

True, the only problem is that some people are not used to the water so they panic when water gets into their eyes, nose, mouths, ears. If they can conquer that fear, than yes, swimming would be a piece of cake.

Letting air out of your lungs is actually a common way to sink. The air helps with buoyancy.

If you are fat you should be able to float in water.

You don't need private, why? swimming lessons. That's like me asking if someone would privately teach me to climb a tree. I can obtain this knowledge from a tree outside, alone. Go find a body of water, get in , try not to stay under for too long. That's all.
