Aplin has really adjusted to A+ well. It would be nice to see him walk some more, but he is making contact so frequently that you can't really blame him. Only 1K in his last 28PAs.

    @BenBadler

Strong early reviews on Astros fourth-rounder Rio Ruiz. Advanced offensively and made some impressive defensive plays at 3B.

Corpus had a day game today, and they took out Frisco 7-2. George Springer went 3-5 with a solo homer in the 6th, his first in a Corpus uniform and 23rd of the season. One batter later, Jake Goebbert sent one out, his 9th. Goebbert also hit a sac fly that resulted in a double play to end the top of the 2nd. Enrique Hernandez had an RBI single in the 2nd to open the scoring, and Ben Orloff went 2-4 with 2 RBI singles. Matt Heidenreich went 5 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 to get the victory.

    OKC defeated Albuquerque 3-1

Don't look now, but the Redhawks are 1.5 behind 1st after winning their 5th straight, culminating in a 4-game sweep of the division-leading Isotopes. Brian Bixler's 6th-inning RBI single tied the game at 1, and Brad Snyder put the Redhawks up with a 2-run single off our old friend Fernando Nieve in the 8th. The pair had 2 hits apiece hitting out of the 1 and 2 spots. Brett Oberholtzer had a strong start, allowing a run on 7 hits and striking out 6 in 7 1/3 innings. Chuckie Fick got the win by getting the last 2 outs of the 8th. Jose Valdez got his 21st save, working around allowing a hit to strike out the side.

    Corpus beat Frisco 7-2

    See prior post.

    Lancaster defeated Inland Empire 2-0

Jonathan Meyer went 2-4 and came through in a huge way, delivering a 2-run single with 2 outs in the 9th. Jio Mier also went 2-4 and scored on Meyer's single. Andrew Aplin (who also scored) and Rafael Valenzuela had 1 hit apiece. Tyson Perez was excellent. The last time he pitched at Inland Empire, he threw a complete game 2-hitter, with C.J. Cron's solo homer being the lone run he allowed. Last night, he threw 7 1/3 shutout innings, allowed 5 hits, and fanned 5. Kenny Long got a 5-out save, retiring all 5 66ers he faced and striking out 4 of them. I think Jeff Luhnow found himself a lefty specialist.

    Lexington lost to Hickory 3-1

Nolan Fontana and Chan-Jong Moon both hit doubles. Zach Johnson's sac fly in the 9th was it. That was his 108th RBI of the season, which leads all of low Class A by a substantial margin. Jobduan Morales had the other Legends hit. Teoscar Hernandez had a golden sombrero and was also the only Legend to not draw a walk. Jonas Dufek went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs (all on homers) on 7 hits (solo and 2-run homers), walked 1, and struck out 11. Nathan Pettus pitched a 1-2-3 8th.

    Tri-City lost to Connecticut 7-3

A rare loss for the best team in the Minors. M.P. Cokinos went 3-4 with a 2-run single in the 6th. Jarrod McKinney scored the other ValleyCat run on a wild pitch in the 9th. Juan Minaya went 5 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, walked 4, and struck out 4. Jamaine Cotton allowed 3 (2 earned) in the 6th on 3 hits and struck out the side. Euris Quezada and Scott Zuloaga pitched a scoreless inning apiece.

Really leads you to believe the manager may truly have lost the clubhouse. Team is on a long ass losing streak when he gets promoted, now playing good since he left. I'm believing the tweet.

Delino DeShields (11) and Domingo Santana (21) both had 2-run homers in the 8th for Lancaster in High Desert. Nick Tropeano was solid, as he allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7 in 6 innings of work.

The Jethawks are blasting the Mavs 11-1, and they're in the 9th.

Santana just pushed his batting average over. 300 and OPS over. 900. He's sitting on 95 RBId, so he should break 100. Really, really good year for a guy who just turned 20 a month ago.

For comparison, he's about 2 weeks older than Deshields...

Chris Devenski just threw a no-hitter for Lexington. Walked 1 and struck out 16 in a 10-0 victory

Wow that is very impressive. He was the PTBNL in the Brett Myers trade.

the worse part is the guy who pitched the no hitter was 0-9 with a 6 era.... he only pitched 6 innings but an 0-9 with a 6 era....

Tri City is now in a dog fight for home field advantage.... they have 4 games left... 1 vs Vermont (oakland) and 3 vs Hudson Valley (tampa bay)... TC is fighting Hudson Valley for Home Field so this 3 game set to end the regular season is going to be very interesting....

also a couple of rumors i have heard are that Houston might get rid of its affiliation with the Tri City Valleycats because they already have Greeneville and GCL and they dont really need a 3rd Short Season A team... and also have heard that Houston is trying to get into the FSL league which is High A so maybe try and get out of Lancaster or cancel Tri City and move to Florida and have 2 Low A's and have 2 High A's

i dont have sources otherwise i would gladly share but if i come across something i will be sure to post it...

also supposedly the Astros GM is supposed to show up at Tri City this week... would be nice to see Luhnow and ask him questions but dont know what kind of info he will share....

Fell asleep at 4pm and woke up at 6:30am after a 30-hour shift. Med school can really wipe you out...

Looking forward to tellitlikeitis's wrap-up, but some very interesting news. Besides all the no-hitter/no-hit news, DDJ stole a bag and is sitting at 99sb on the season. Lancaster gave up 12 runs and still won by 11. George Springer with 3-4 with no K's. Zeid pitched without giving up a run. CC put up 11 runs and 20 hits on San Antonio.

Lots of great stuff going on.

Also, my current favorite player Andrew Aplin is holding his own in HiA after being promoted from Tri-City. He's hitting .284/.313/.442 in Lancaster in 22 games in Cali. Those are solid numbers for a previously-thought-of no-power CF playing in HiA during his draft year.

His BABIP drop from .379 to .308 accounts for a solid chunk of the decline in %'s across the board. Slightly more concerning, his BB% dropped from 12% to 4%.

Looking forward to a Meredith/Aplin/Kvasnicka outfield in Lancaster next season.

Get ready for when you're actually a resident and your decisions/actions/stamina put real pt's lives at risk. Speaking from experience...

Oklahoma City lost to the former AAA team 6-3

5 of those 6 runs were scored as part of a 9th-inning rally off an epic fail from Chuckie Fick and Brian Sanches, who couldn't hold a 3-1 lead. Fick didn't even get an out, but he did give up 4 (3 inherited) runs on 2 hits and walked 1. Sanches allowed all 3 of Fick's runners to score and allowed 1 of his own for good measure. Jarred Cosart went 6 innings and allowed an unearned run on 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3.

The Redhawks scored all 3 of their runs in the bottom of the 2nd, as Jose Martinez had a 2-run triple and Brian Bixler sent him home with a single. Angel Sanchez and J.D. Martinez each had 2 hits.

    Corpus defeated San Antonio 11-1

Ross Seaton only went 3 1/3 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits, walking 1, and striking out 4. Let the speculation begin. Erick Abreu, who continues to defy all logic, got his 10th win of the season with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, allowing a hit and striking out 3. He even hit an RBI single in the 6th. Josh Zeid, Kevin Chapman, and Jason Stoffel finished it out.

The Hooks actually trailed 1-0. Not for long, though. After that, they scored 11 unanswered as part of a 20-hit barrage. The People's Champ, Jay Fernandez, went 4-5 and scored 4 times. Ben Orloff went 2-4 with 4 RBI. He used different methods each time to get his 4 RBI. He had a groundout in the 2nd, a double in the 4th, was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 6th, and singled in the 7th. George Springer went 3-4 with 2 RBI singles. Jake Goebbert went 3-5 with 2 doubles and an RBI single. Austin Wates, Robbie Grossman, and Andy Simunic also hit RBI singles. Jonathan Singleton went 2-5 with a walk.

    Lancaster blasted High Desert 23-12

The wind was blowing at 20 MPH out to left. Jethawks took full advantage, sending 8 out. At one point, they were up 22-2. Everyone had an RBI except for Telvin Nash, who went 2-5 with a double and scored 3 times. Wanna guess what he did the other 3 times? He has 193 Ks with 2 games remaining.

I don't think words can describe this game, so I'll leave you with the box score.

Yes, that's right. Delino DeShields led off the game with a homer, then stole his 99th base.

Colton Cain got more than enough run support, I think. He went 5 innings and allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits (2-run homer), walked 3, and struck out 3. Incredibly, Jorge De Leon was the only pitcher from either side to come out unscathed, as he threw a scoreless 8th. Andrew Robinson got blasted, but he had a 17-run lead to work with...

    Lexington no-hit Rome 10-0

Chris Devenski was one walk away from perfection. He struck out 16, giving him a game score of 102. That one walk was issued in the 5th to Kyle Kubitza, a former Texas State standout.

Overshadowed by Devenski was Matt Duffy's monster night. He went 3-5 with a 3-run homer in the 1st, a solo shot in the 5th, and an RBI double in the 6th. The 2 homers give him 16 on the season, and he has definitely passed Jonathan Meyer in the totem pole at 3rd. Teoscar Hernandez had an RBI groundout and a sac fly. Jobduan Morales and Nolan Fontana had RBI singles. Fontana had his customary multi-walk game, as he drew 4. Everyone had a hit. Everyone scored except for Hernandez and Morales.

    Tri-City was no-hit by Vermont 2-0

On other nights, Juri Perez's outing would probably have been good enough to get him a win. Unfortunately, the offense took the night off. He went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and struck out 6. Jeremiah Meiners pitched a scoreless 8th. Emilio King walked twice.

Oy... I can't wait. Thank god the facial trauma call was quiet. One hearing loss consult (aka cerumen dis-impaction) and 4 broken jaws (4 very different combinations of "i was drunk and fell on my face" and "I got punched by a guy I didn't see".

Thanks for the recap Tellitlikeitis! I'll see if I can rep you again.
