I thought Torchwood was a pretty good series. I think they were trying for an "edgier" show than Dr. Who and for the most part they accomplished that.
Disappointed in season finale. It was nice for a non "Deus ex machina" ending like they have done nearly every season since Series 1, but it just didn't have it. Needed more complexity. They made such a big deal about the "mid-season finale" and building up to it, it felt they just didn't have enough for the last few episodes or the finale. Would have helped if they had better worked in the Series 7 plot teasers into this season instead of pushing them off until next year to make it more satisfying and adding a cliffhanger effect until series 7. The latter 6 episodes just lost momentum from the Series 6 arc. They were all amazing episodes individually (acting, direction, story). I just feel that the episodes in this Series were out of order. God Complex would have been a great Series 6 premiere & Closing Time as the the second episode of the season illustrating some gap when the Doctor is without Amy/Rory before jumping into the arc or with the The Astronaut and Moon episodes. This would have made the letter and Rory/Amy coming back more poignant. Then mix in the other really good episodes like The Girl Who Waited in before The Rebel Flesh/Almost People. Not sure where you would make the mid-season break with a cliff hanger, but it shouldn't have been that hard. Also does anyone else... Spoiler feel that Moffat is totally overusing the River is going through time in a different pattern theme a bit too much. I mean they set the standard that they go through time "opposite of each other" but then she has sets of episodes where that does not happen. I just feel that he is misusing it and probably at times totally lacking the continuity of the initial precedent.
I loved the finale... sort of felt like an end to Rory and Amy's time as the companions and the start of River's though... which worries me. But overall I loved how they gave the resolution for how he survived and what happened there on the beach... plus it left us with more questions... meaning things that the silence had correct about asking the question and the fall weren't exactly correct in the way that they were related but not synced in time as they thought it was. I'm still not fully on the Matt Smith as the Doctor wagon, but I did enjoy this season (and last though not as much as the Tennant years) rpr, I think we are finished with the River out of time storyline now... which is good, because as much as I love Alex Kingston, she and Matt Smith together are all wrong. I could totally see her with Eccleston's doctor, but Matt Smith is just too... nutty and immature I guess. I am hoping that this means we don't have to see much of River anymore and maybe get strictly Rory and Amy or a new companion.
I loved the season finale. Gave me a good chuckle when I realized what the Doctor had done. I like how Moffat is setting up the story. This whole season seems more like a prequel to a much, much larger story. I also like how his episodes feel like a mix between Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and of course Doctor Who. The resolution to the season is simply perfect for anyone to understand. It is a children's show at heart. Another thing is how Moffat seems to be rebooting the entire series. I definitely think his whole agenda is to correct the idea that the Doctor can only regenerate 12 times. Smith is definitely better than Tennant in my opinion. He has a good way of balancing out the goofy, whimsical, and dark side of the Doctor. Especially in the episode before the finale with the baby.
Demons run when a good man goes to war. Night will fall and drown the sun When a good man goes to war. Friendship dies and true love lies. Night will fall and the dark will rise. When a good man goes to war. Demons run but counts the cost The battle's won but the child is lost. When a good man goes to war. Second best episode of the Matt Smith era - number one being The Doctor's Wife.
The finale was good enough for me, but the 2nd part of the season drifted. Amy and Rory have to go; same for River. I also wouldn't mind if they brought on a new Doctor. Needs a fresh start next season. I will be severely disappointed if Amy, Rory and River all return.
David Tennant was amazing as the Doctor, but Matt Smith ain't too shabby. He's filled the role quite well these past 2 seasons, putting his own unique spin on the character. In fact, I'd dare say Smith has been great. I thought the finale was fine. A bit predictable, but still good. And as much as I like them, I hope Amy and Rory don't come back. They've outlived their usefulness. Season 7: MOAR DALEKS PLEAZ.
I agree that the doctor needs a new companion. They had a different companion for every one of DA's seasons.
The finale was fine... not mind-blowing, but pretty good. It didn't quite have the grand scale of some of the prior seasons' finales, but it has some nice moments and fun visual (from the "alternate" universe). One scene I loved was the Doctor talking to the Dalek. Almost reminds me of "Dexter." Both Smth and Tenant are great at bringing out that certain menacing aspect of the Doctor.
The Doctor's Wife was an awesome episode. I loved the whole feel of that episode. Hopefully Neil Gaiman writes a few more during this run.
Amy is the new Sarah Jane Smith. Now they're running with alternate time streams I hope they can bring in the 8th and Shalka Doctors for a new "Five Doctors" special.

The show needs to get back to its roots and have more sci-fi stuff like time & space travel and aliens.
So... thoughts on ? I enjoyed it. Spoiler The whole "hot girl turned into a Dalek" thing is interesting and creepy at the same time. Jenna-Louise Coleman, who plays Oswin in this episode and is reported to be the new companion for 2013, will be fun to watch. Not sure how her character in 2013 is related to Oswin (Same person? Ancestor?). Also,
I liked the season premier, but man do they over-hype this show... I like Rory and Amy, but I'm ready for a change too; can't wait for the new companion. sidenote: Att-uverse needs to get BBCAmerica an HD channel.
This episode nailed two of my gripes to the wall: More Daleks and more stuff away from Earth. But Amy and Rory are just dead tired and warmed over. It's so obvious. Good start to the season.
