Really? And you were so close to Austria.........you should have driven across the border and tried it there.
Back in California there is a place called Taco Loco that has carne asada con frijoles y arroz... and "authentic" salsa which will make most white folks breathe hot fire and blow an O ring later on. That **** is still by far the best mexican food I have ever had. More impressive than your "Tex-Mex" But I've already bashed Whataburger enough, I don't want to take away anything more from you Texans
My current favorite taco is the Cuban taco at El Rey...steak, black beans and plantains. Friends, that's 100% delicious.
My favorite tacos right now are from El Jarrito Cafe, the outdoor stand though. It's on Gessner north of I-10. Bistec taco FTW. My mom makes good Chilaquiles, they are even better as leftovers for breakfast with a couple of eggs sunny side up. For some real Mexico City food, there's this place called Chilangos on Bellaire right before you get to Highway 6, accross the street from the Fiesta. If the place isn't busy, the owner will talk to you about authentic mexican food and talk crap about "mexican" places here that put lettuce and tomato on everything.
I've eating "authentic" Mexican food while in Mexico several times before and all I have to say is, yuck. I pick tex mex 100%.

Half price is about how that place should be priced normally. Good food but too pricey for what you get
There is this little taco truck on 249 and Ella that sell delicious freaking tacos. Tacos de suadero. 2 tortillas de maiz with chopped cilantro, onion, and lemon with a side of grilled onions for a 1$ each. All you need is $5 to be stuffed. Can't beat that. I like both styles of cuisine.
