Interesting how all the states in the country with the best performing schools tend to be blue states and the ones consistently ranked worst of the bunch are deep red states.
I know you know this, but it really isn't causation. Income and race are much more significant factors than red/blue state.
Definitely true, and my post was mostly just a silly observation. But it doesn't help make the case that the GOP has somehow found a solution to the education problems we have in the country. If they had, you'd see red states outperforming their demographics relative to blue states, and we really don't see that. Even where there are similar demographics, the blue states tend to do at least as well or better than red states - though the data is certainly limited due to how few states fit the comparison.
Then why would you say blue states are out performing red states? Red states do better on the NAEP when broken up by race/economics.
http://www.alec.org/publications/report-card-on-american-education/ These are the ALEC - an extremely conservative organization - rankings: Top 10 includes 6 blue, 2 purple, 2 red states. Bottom 10 includes 8 red, 1 purple, 1 blue state. Here are rankings from an FSU study in math and science: Top 10: 8 blue, 1 purple, 1 red. Bottom 10: 8 red, 1 purple, 1 blue. Because they are. I didn't say what the cause was, but the blue states consistently perform better than red states. You can argue the cause forever. You could argue that its simply income. But you could also argue that the reason blue states are wealthier in the first place is because they educate their population better. Wealth leads to better education, but better education leads to more wealth too.
They aren't. They do worse with every race and every economic group on average. That's not out-performing.
you can break it down however you wish. It's set to Science 2009. If you want something else change it. http://nationsreportcard.gov/science_2009/g8_state.asp?subtab_id=Tab_6&tab_id=tab1#tabsContainer probably should of just sent you the home page http://nationsreportcard.gov/
I cannot wait until the TeaBaggers have to either vote for her or some Democrat in 2016 Rocket River "But But But . .. her skin . . it .. is . . . . like .. Obamas!!!"
Your post is stupid. The tea party strongly supports Alan West (yuck) and liked Herman Cain as well. But I'm glad you have a narrative you can believe in that helps you channel your hate.
Tea party seemed to enjoy Arthur Davis and Mia Love's speech earlier this week <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-WKJ_SUV_ek" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Lfop5TeDnZo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Condi is right. You can look at the zip code and tell if it is a good school. This is largely because American society has such poor distribution of wealth. Can't touch inequality. Can't talk about taxes on the 1% either , so let's pretend it is teacher's unions and use the magic remedy for everything --"choice". Wow how deep and original. Not necessarily Condi, who might just be content to teach at a private university and supplement her income with speeches and being on coporate boards, but the typical conservatives who like money off privatizing previous government services for their own profit, would just love to get a slice of the education tax dollars.
I didn't say they were outperforming when accounting for race or economic group or whatever other subgrouping you want to use. I said they were outperforming - and they are. Blue states consistently get higher test scores than red states. At the end of the day, the students in the blue states are more educated than the ones in the red states. Maybe they are that way because they are wealthier. Or maybe they are wealthier because they are better educated.
Go ask a parent who has to send their kids to one of these crap schools if she would like a choice in where they send their kids. When was the last time every American parent had a choice in what school their kid went to no matter how poor? it is very original.
So all the poor kids want to go to good schools like the rich kids and they can! We just need to give them the choice! This is really brilliant stuff.
How do we get rid of this inequality, though? Do we force everybody to start off at the same level with the same resources? Then when that generation has kids we redistribute the wealth again and force all of their kids to start off at the same level? How do we truly improve education around the country as well? Bump the pay for teachers? I don't like that the 1 percent is so much wealthier than the rest of us, but how do we reverse that? Is eliminating loopholes one solution? Is less corporatization another one?
...and universities have had to add more fees, raise tuition, seek more outside funding, and refuse entry to more students because of Perry's cuts.
