I remember people blowing hundreds of loads over this kid a few years ago...

What about him now? Is he any good? I see he was waived recently so why not take a shot at him?

We do need a back up 5 after all.

You sure you're not talking about some forum on Brazzers?

He can play. The poor kid is just mentally challenged and as a result his confidence suffers terribly. He'll never be a superstar. But on the right team, in a reserve role, he could become quite the contributor.

Well.............not quite. He's mentally challenged like Thabeet. But this guy has a skillset and a huge dose of athleticism to go along with his length. Thabeet has size and length, that's it.

Just goes to show how important the mental aspect of the game is. In most cases, it is the overriding factor measuring the degree of success and failure. If a coach (perhaps John Lucas is the guy) can reach Hassan's psyche and change it, he'd be a very good player.

I've seen some highlights of his, and I was impressed by his skill set. I would take a chance on him. Why not?

Some insight into his personality here. Kinda goofy kid. But that's all right. Better than a stupid dope smoker.

If the Rockets want to take a flyer then great. Im sure glad they didnt waste the 14th pick on him years ago though like half of the forum wanted Morey to do.

I just have to warn you guys that if they do sign him as a flyer then everyone's favorite troll will be back on the forum claiming that he's the next Kevin Garnett, and McHale is an idiot for not playing him 30+ minutes a night. Im not sure taking a flyer on him is worth having to deal with that clown trolling up the GARM.

    Just warning you guys.

Sure, I'd take a look at Whiteside . . . if there were a roster spot available.

Even after waiving Sean Williams, the Rockets still have 19 players on the roster, including 17 with at least some guaranteed money on their deals. There simply isn't room for anyone who isn't going to be a sure fire rotation player (see Delfino, Carlos).

Also, I think the Rockets already have a "young athletic center project" in Greg Smith, who the team may want to continue to develop (either in Houston or in the RGV) rather than starting over with a new project.

It's not proper etiquette to pound on a guy that can't defend himself. Dada brought a lot of good things to this board. Too bad everybody chooses to remember every mistake and none of the good. As if none of you haven't goofed it up a time or two.

When I first started coming on here he brought alot to the forum, but in the past 2 years or so he was going straight for shock rock intentionally for attention mostly. Id welcome DD back if was here for the right reasons.

    ....mmmm...

I'm kinda mmmm yeah about Smith at this point. What was your impressions in summer league? Me...not much. I understand the commitment though. We owe him about $350k, so gotta try to get a return on that money. Realistically though, we should have roster room to add Hassan, IF WE WANT HIM. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with carrying both him and Smith on the roster. There could be a roster spot made for both of them.

    Other things contrasting the two:

Smith is power, Hassan is finesse. Hassan, at this stage, is way more skilled on both ends of the floor. Hard to tell which one has the better bball mind. But I suspect Smith does.

I get the sense that Hassan and his agent are looking for the right opportunity. Don't know if they would sign in Houston right now even if we offered him a deal. Don't know if they would even sign in Minny since Minny has Pek and Stiemsma locked in there. I think his agent is looking for playing time in a definitive backup role, not a come in and make the roster as a 3rd center situation.

Smith didn't get much playing time in SL, so the sample size is too small to draw any conclusion. However, he's a pleasant surprise in limited regular season time. I think he's the one to keep and develop.
