The Rockets will win 45 games this year as Lin proves it is impossible to tank with a winner. Then I will suckle upon the sweet bitter tears of all you pathetic tankers and jokers and laugh, and you will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I will look down and whisper "no."
People have the right to believe this team will fail from the start. The Rockets missed the playoffs again this year with the best players they had and then gutted everything. The Rockets got rid of their great PG tantrum in Lowry and Dragic. Amnestied their best forward that is reliable and can also stay healthy. Basically their entire rotation from last season is gone except for Parsons and Patterson. The Rockets coming into this season is the second youngest team in the NBA behind the Washington Wizards. We all know that teams that are incredibly young and inexperienced will most likely not do well especially if they don't have any star power. If you insert a star player into this roster, then this team may have a chance to be decent at best but because of the lack of experience, the amount of rookies and the youth on this team, the Rockets will most likely be one of the worst teams in the NBA. I know many people here on Clutchfans will argue with me saying the Rockets will do well and prove everybody wrong. To be honest, I would love for them to do well also. But in order for this team to win games, where are they going to get their scoring from? The Rockets got rid of their top scorers from last season in Scola, Goran, and Lowry along with Lee and Chase. Jeremy Lin may be our top scorer but is he even that great of a player to lead this team? He is still young and have a lot of growing left to do in his game. Omer Asik isn't an offensive threat at all and Parsons isn't known for his scoring but his defense is a big impact. Donatus is a rookie big man that has tons of skills but need time to get adjusted to the NBA. Lamb, White, and Jones are also three talented rookies with high upside but they are still only rookies so their production is not going to be high. Lets be honest with ourselves and not be biased. Many Rockets fans say that this team will prove doubters wrong but if this entire roster was on another team in the NBA, all of us will say that they will suck pretty bad. But because it's the Houston Rockets, many are biased and believe that they will do well. The Rockets will do bad this year but their future is brighter than ever. They have high lottery picks, young talented players with upside and cap room. It is much better than doing semi well and be stuck in the middle like the Suns.
It's not about tanking. It's the fact that this team will do pretty bad because of their youth. They are the 2nd youngest team in the NBA with no star player to lead them. This young team will make tons of growing mistakes throughout this season. All of the most youngest teams in the NBA struggle except for the Thunders because their youngsters are also great star players. People tend to refer to that term "tank" but it's not it at all. I think tanking is when a team purposely lose even when they have a good enough team to be in the playoffs. This young Rockets team has no veterans except for Kevin Martin and Delfino. I don't know if K-Mart is going to be a big part of this team or not and Delfino, I really don't know his role at all. It seems fair to be high on our young players but it will take a few years before this team to gain enough experience to start winning games in this league. You can't take a team with basically 5 rookies ( including Marcus Morris because he didn't play last year) along with 2nd or 3rd year players and expect to win a lot of games against other NBA teams. The only teams I think the Rockets are better than are the Bobcats, Cavs, and maybe the Kings and Jazz. This team will have growing pains this year but it will pay off down the road.
So Parsons, Lamb, Motiejunas, Patterson, White, Jones, Morris, and Delfino are a bunch of scrubs? I hope we can prove the haters wrong.
This was actually pretty fair assessment. I actually think the Omer Asik signing was the best signing of the off season, better than getting Lin. Omer is a great defensive center & he just plays smart defense. For anybody who prefers something more than just ESPN shot blocking highlights, watching Omer play is a lot of fun. I think the Rockets will feel his impact immediately. I don't care what anybody says about him being a back up. There was never any drop in defensive efficiency between Noah & Omer. I agree 100% about what was said about Lin. He showed flashes of greatness, now is the time to work on his consistency. 18 & 8, with less turnovers, smarter defense (he doesn't need to be great defensively just smart), improved shooting from the field & just bringing that winning mentality would be awesome.
Thanks for your insight. I disagree. Someone on this roster has carried unheralded teammates before against all odds and came out on top, time and again. In a year's time, fans like yourself will sing his name. Fans like yourself will believe. Hopefully, by that time, fans like yourself will also remember.
I have to agree with Mamba Joe. If you are talking about Lin you have to temper your expectations. He like all young players are a work in progress. He is a great player with tons of upside but I have a difficult time seeing him carry this team to the playoffs. If we make it to the PO's it is because we played like a team, ie. we were greater than our individual talents. I have us pegged at 35 games though.
Thank you for your concern. I'll mind my own expectations, though. We likely will not make the playoffs, but 35 games is not nearly bad enough for the "tankers".
The only similarity between the Wizards and our squad is youth. Washington was full of underachieving knuckleheads with fat contracts. Nothing but high character and motivation with our rooks (something about DM you can always count on). And you don't have to end every one of your posts with "there's a rough road ahead, but a light at the end of the tunnel" puff piece cheesy goodness.
I think it will be likely that we will suck pretty bad to start the year. Nobody besides Lin, Asik and Parsons have somewhat defined roles. Should improve as we go though. I'm not pro tank, I want a competitive team but unless we have some really special rookies it will be a bumpy season.
Screw what everyone else is saying. We really should watch 10-20 games before cast this team into the dungeon or the tanking abyss. I don't understand why fans of a team can be so pessimistic about their team, especially with so many variables such as rookies and new roster. Not one games you have seen them play! I wouldn't mind if we barely miss the playoffs this time. It could only mean improvement with so many rookies next year! Worst case scenerio: they play their heart out and end up as one of the worst teams and become just like Raptors, Wizzards, Bobcats, or Kings, a Mary go round bottom dweller for decades to come.
