Jeff Daniels (Will) is a Republican, but maybe more adequately described as a late 60's early 70's Republican, which is nowadays considered a "Republican In Name Only".

I do hope that more serious criticism of the Left is embedded into next season. Good season. Finale could have been less predictable drama-wise, but I enjoyed the outcome.

That whole love rectangle is so freaking stupid at this point. Here you have the guy asking the girl to move in but he doesn't really love her but likes her a lot. He's asking her to move in because he's basically out of time to make a move and doesn't want to lose the girl he doesn't love. Then, you have the Olivia Munn character wanting the guy who doesn't really love the other girl...who basically admitted she's ready to lay down for this guy any time and is hotter than the girl he's asking to move in. And, he obviously feels something towards her that he's put on the back burner. Meanwhile, you got the other guy dating the girl he actually loves best friend. The girl he actually loves who loves him is egging him on to pursue her when she really doesn't want him to pursue her best friend but really wants him for herself.

Then, she finally admits to a bus full of "Sex and the City" tourists after the bus splashes water on her that she loves the guy who is dating her best friend. He happens to be on the bus to learn more about the "Sex and the City" show for the sake of getting inroads with the girl he doesn't love. He stands up after hearing her public rant (surprise! noone saw that coming...sure), pursues her after her little public proclamation, and they kiss. Then, they back off implying they are going to break with their significant others who they don't love but like a lot...so they can be with who they actually want to be with all along.

Then, stupid girl decides to commit to the off/on again boyfriend because idiot she doesn't love and who doesn't love her finally makes a move and asks her to move in. Meanwhile, she hangs her real love out to dry. And, the only reason for doing this whole stupid scenario in the season finale is so they can do it all again next season to where they all eventually end up with who they really care about. And, the Jeff Daniels character will end up with the girl who cheated on him...who he basically confessed in a high rant on a voice mail message that he still loves and will always love (apparently).

Meanwhile, the news... . It's a soap opera in a newsroom. It's really a show about people who refuse to accept the truth, settle for second best or no best, and are too weak to be with who they really want and want to be with...while the news is going on and they have to do their jobs.

Here's hoping that we can get on to something else with a little more substance next season. Cheers.

The love square did get pretty old. Next season someone will have to be crushed in that aspect. That thing envolves two best friends/roommates and three coworkers. Someone will be left out in the cold.

Great finish to a great first season. I don't mind the love triangle because all-news-all-the-time would get a bit boring. All of Sorkin's shows add something to this affect as a bit of comedic relief or just something to distract you briefly from the crux of the show...just enough to keep you interested in the outcome.

Next season should be fun as it will take into account the rest of this election cycle (the left off still in 2011). Can't wait...

I love the show! But i think the election cycle will kill any interesting news regarding politics. We vote in a few months . . . are we seriously going to be interested in a boring Romney primary fight next June? Six months into a new presidency? I'm sure they have something good figured out, I just can't see what it is.

I have no interest whatsoever in this show, but am surprised at all the positive reviews here. The show was pretty much critically lambasted when it first came out.

Maybe the show got better as time went on? Perhaps TV critics in the media are a very conservative bunch?

the show has its bright spots but the romantic drama back and forth is so ****ing annoying. Its almost like a disney channel show. HBO wouldn't have renewed it for another season if they waited longer than the first episode.

not really. It had a great first episode, and has been on a roller coaster. I really don't like sorkin's writing at all. Its terrible IMO.

Newsroom is great fun, yeah it's some sappy romance but the political idealism is the real meat of the show. You can assume 50% of people are offended by the center/left point of view, but hey go watch Hannity.

If nothing else, Sorkin writes great dialog, and it's worth watching just for that.

The dialogue and sound editing are really reminiscent of "His Girl Friday," one of the best sounding movies of all time.

Otherwise known as the "know your place as a permanent minority party" Republican.

I've never watched the show, what Republican positions does Will advocate?

Will had a long litany of his Republican values in the last season finale':
Pre-eminent military power, free markets, sustainable social safety net and some other generally pretty middle of the road stuff.

What he says he believes most though is that radical conservatism is actually the antithesis of the term conservative, I take to mean precedent and decided law should be revered and preserved, that change in the US should always be incremental.

By the way @WillMcAvoyACN is a pretty great tweet. He's got a word war going on with the Tea Party because of this:

it got renewed for a 2nd season after the 1st episode. Far too premature but the show is good. I hope they can actually sustain it unlike the fluctuations in the first season.

Pilot and finale were good. the rest were decent or bad.

That's was the point; I think Will wants a Republican Party that represents the majority of average Americans and not a party that has been radicalized by extremist, since by definition, radical positions are not conservative.

I have a four days off since last Saturday hence took the chance to watch all nine episodes from HBO OD, still awaiting HBOAsia to upload the finale.

I have always enjoyed watching Aaron Sorkin's series since the West Wing. As a foreign viewer I must say I felt the West Wing to certain extent was too "Americanized" to me yet I liked the core values the show was trying to promote, same to Newsroom.

I am looking forward to another season already. The shows ran along with some major news stories hence it would be fun if Sorkin would spare an episode on "Linsanity" as the event fell on the time-line (early year 2012) and place (New York) perfectly.
