Jarred Cosart went 5 innings and allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 5, and struck out 5 for OKC. He leaves with the Redhawks trailing Albuquerque 1-0. Enerio Del Rosario in to pitch...

It's either that or become a Pirates fan. Or maybe the Giants.

Ross Seaton threw 7 shutout innings, scattering 4 hits and striking out a career-high 9 in Corpus. He also hit a 2-run triple in the 4th. Hooks lead San Antonio 3-0. Erick Abreu has come on in relief in the 8th, despite Seaton throwing 85 pitches.

Seaton earned a 78, if you're keeping score

Seaton could rake as a high school batter at 2nd Baptist. Not surprised he's hitting a little

Just about every HS pitcher can hit, when they're not playing SS or 3B. You watched a lot of SBS games back in the day, huh?

I went to SBS...never thought that would come up in an Astros thread.

    I'll take it.

You are too young to be forgetting which year you graduated.

    Oklahoma City defeated Albuquerque 6-1

The Redhawks trailed 1-0 until they put 4 on the board in the bottom of the 7th. They put 2 more on for good measure in the 8th. Brad Snyder went 2-2 with a 2-run single in the 7th that gave OKC the lead, and he added another RBI single in the 8th. Matt Downs had a sac fly, and Crash Hessman hit a solo homer in the 7th (32) and drew a bases-loaded walk in the 8th. Jarred Cosart went 5 innings and allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 5, and struck out 5. Enerio Del Rosario got the win with 2 scoreless, allowing a hit and fanning 1. Garrett Mock struck out the side in order in the 8th, and Chuckie Fick finished it out with a 1-2-3 9th inning.

Jordan Schafer went 0-2 in a rehab game. I'd rather not see him finish out the season in Houston.

Corpus Christi defeated San Antonio 3-0

Excellent game for Ross Seaton as he did it all! He threw 7 shutout innings, scattered 4 hits in the process, and struck out a career-high 9 batters. He also hit a 2-run triple in the 4th to put the Hooks on the board first. One batter later, he came home on an RBI infield single by Austin Wates. Jonathan Singleton went 3-4 with a ground-rule double. Erick Abreu finished it off with 2 perfect innings for the save, striking out 3.

    Lancaster defeated Lake Elsinore 12-4

Big series win for the Jethawks as they took 3 of 4 from the Storm to give them a 3-game lead over the Storm (and Rancho Cucamonga) in the Cali League South wild-card race. Telvin Nash went 2-5 with a 3-run homer in the 3rd, his 27th. I wonder what he did in the 3 at-bats where he didn't get a hit... Domingo Santana went solo in the 6th for his 20th of the season. He went 2-2 with a walk and scored 3 times. Delino DeShields went 3-5 with 2 triples and stole his 97th base of the year. Andrew Aplin was 2-5 with a 2-run double and is starting to heat up once again; he's now on a 10-game hitting streak. Rafael Valenzuela had a solo shot of his own to lead off the 2nd, his 4th. Jonathan Meyer was 2-5 with an RBI single and an RBI double, and Erik Castro added a sac fly in the 4th.

The Jethawks staked Colton Cain to an 8-1 lead, and he got his 1st win in the organization, going 6 innings and allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, walking 4 and striking out 3. Jose Trinidad gave up a 2-run homer to Tommy Medica in the top of the 8th. He allowed 4 hits and struck out 2 in 2 innings. Andrew Robinson finished it, allowing 1 hit in the 9th.

    Tri-City lost to Lowell 3-2

Jarrod McKinney's 2-run homer (5) in the 2nd was the only offense for the ValleyCats. Joe Sclafani went 2-4 with a double, and Ryan Dineen tripled. Tyler Heineman went 1-2 and walked twice. Juri Perez had a bare minimum quality start, allowing 6 hits, walking 1, and fanning 6. He allowed all 3 Spinners runs in the bottom of the 1st. Jamaine Cotton, Blake Ford, and Scott Zuloaga did not allow a hit in their stints out of the bullpen.

    Greeneville lost to Bluefield 5-2

The Appy Astros' offense was rendered useless by 17-year-old Alberto Tirado, who allowed 1 hit, walked 2, and struck out 3 over 5 shutout innings for the Blue Jays. Francis Ramirez allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 2, and fanned 4 in 4 innings. Mike Dimock allowed a run in the 5th, Joe Musgrove pitched a scoreless 6th, then was roughed up for 3 in the 7th before getting tossed. Tanner Bushue went the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing a hit and striking out 5. His season ERA is finally under 10. Brian Blasik and Mike Martinez had RBI singles.

I did. Graduated from there and didn't live very far away. School's small enough that someone with that much talent gets a LOT of attention (see Connor Wood). Attended several of his starts. Kid could hit back then.

Jared Lakind, a guy who I graduated with from Cy-Woods a couple years ago, spurned Arkansas to sign with the Pirates.

I remember going to see a game my junior year... and Jameson Taillon was the opposing pitcher. Dude just mowed everyone down.

"A note from the poet laureate: While the goal of this blog has always been following the Astros of the future, I have attempted to remain disinterested or at least neutral concerning matters of the big league club. As a lifelong fan of the Houston Astros, this has been challenging at times, and I am sure that my emotional attachment has come through both positively and negatively more than I would like to admit.

Having said that, it is ironic that the Astros themselves have had a hand in removing this challenge from my plate. It has become quite clear recently that the organization has a certain definition of what kind of fan they want, and that I do not fit into that definition. Needless to say, it is disheartening to come to this realization. At the same time, I am confident that this new understanding will help me to focus and do a better job with this blog out of allegiance to the Farmstros Village and nothing else. "

--What happened to the FarmStros Guy?

Hey everybody here an article a friend sent to me about vincent velasquez.

From Zach Levine in the Houston Chronicle:

Tri-City is dealing with the potential shutdown of Vincent Velasquez, who last pitched Aug. 7 and has been nursing a strained oblique.

The timing was somewhat fortuitous, as he was nearing his innings limit in place because of his 2010 Tommy John surgery.

“We’re not sure if we’re going to have him pitch again or not,” Houston Director of Player Development Fred Nelson said. “He was getting close to what we imposed here. He may be a guy who continues to throw and doesn’t pitch in games. Or if he does, it will be very limited as that club goes into the playoffs.”

So, Telvin Nash hit a grand slam for Lancaster last night in their 7-2 win over Inland Empire. Even more remarkable is the fact that he didn't strike out last night.
