Enemy of the State: 5/10 Watched it on FX this weekend. Haven't watched it the whole length thru since it first came out. It's a pretty good movie and amazing to see how deep the roster of cast members was. Also caught Ace Ventura Pet Detective: When Nature Calls; I loved that movie as a kid and still love it to this day, corny and all... 8/10 For me.
Naked Weapon 9/10 - wow.... i really like it <iframe width="600" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/L_0CQ7Kwpmg?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Amazing Spiderman - I was very impressed despite not being a fan of the choice of peter and a re-make in general. Thought he did very well, although i'm still taking off a 1/2 point because his face is too ostrich-y. Another half point for skateboarding, skinny jeans and breaking the backboard. 9/10.
I really had a good run, watched some really great movies Dark Knight Rises - 8.5 Elite Squad - 8.0 Elite Squad: The Enemy Within - 8.5 A Seperation - 9 The Beast Of War - 8
Warrior - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1291584/ I'm pretty much a sucker for sport movies, and this movie met that requirement from that aspect. From a drama perspective, Warrior builds up very well from the different aspects/threads. Acting wise, Thomas Hardy impresses with his brooding. Nolte, as usual, over the top and basically incomprehensible. Highly recommended. 8.5/10
Jaws ...on Bluray. Man what a thing of beauty. I've seen Jaws plenty of times, but on Bluray it's like watching a brand new movie practically. 10/10
Days of Heaven - 8.5/10 Really enjoyed the cinematography. Dark Knight Rises - 7/10 Weakest of the trilogy I thought, but still good.
The Amazing Spider-Man 7.7/10 I have to admit Andrew Garfield make a much better Peter Parker than Toby Maguire by a mile but I still have major problem with his weird facial expression at time. Emma Stone makes a great Gwen Stacy and her chemistry with Andrew Garfield works really well. Haven't forgiven Sam Raimi for ****ing up the Gwen Stacy story line. One of the weak thing about this movie would be the Lizard.
The Hunger Games - 5/10 The movie was too slow for my taste. It was good, but I just couldn't finish it. I think I have about 15-20 minutes left and then just turned it off.
7.5/10 for me. I don't like the trend towards very long movies. This one should have been about 30 mins shorter. 2h22mins was too long.
I'll give The Hunger Games 7/10. I was kept pretty entertained throughout, although the pacing was erratic at times. It kind of felt like a Phillip K Dick novel filtered through the lens of the Twilight watering down of female protagonists. Also, Elizabeth Banks is not a good actress.
The Dictator 6/10 I can completely understand if Cohen is not to your taste. But there is no denying that he is willing to go to extreme lengths in the service of creating a character. And so let me just say this: I am a pretty big S. B. Cohen fan. I have liked everything I have seen him do. He may be on his way to a career that mimics Peter Sellers, in that he is an utter chameleon, willing and able and talented enough to do just about anything put in front of him. But so far, with the exceptions of Hugo and Talladega Nights, (and I suppose the Madagascar movies), his most popular things have been his own creations. I am still not sure what he will end up doing if he is given a more serious role written and directed by someone else, and someone strong. We'll see. Now as for The Dictator. It's a lot better than Zohan (a movie which tries to approach some similar territories), let me say that. But while that may not be saying much, the narrative is clear, the character is well defined, and his arc is, well, goofy, but understandable. He may be a ruthless dictator, but on the inside he is just lonely and lovable. Like Kim Jong Il - 'I'm so ronery!' It's hard to make comedy out of atrocities, and so a lot of the jokes fall flat. Some of the recurring ones could probably have been removed altogether, such as the running joke about renaming lots of words to 'Aladeen'. It didn't really add any laughs - I am sure it looked better on paper than it came across in action. And some of it seemed like it was designed more for scenes from an Airplane! movie, such as the Dictator and his scientist pal and their scene in the helicopter. Again, probably more funny on paper than on screen. However, for the most part, it works fairly well as a satire. And of course you know there are going to be more than a few completely inappropriate scenes where you will be screaming at the screen, 'No! No! No!', but yes, he does. All in all, worth it on DVD for a buck from Rebox, especially if you like Cohen. And Anna Farris once again shows that she is way under-used in Hollywood. Overall, decent, but not great.
Just watched Cabin in the Woods cool take on the horror cliche if a little light on the actual horror.. but that isnt what this horror movie is about.. To reveal anything would be doing this movie an injustice, watch it - 8/10
