    :( :(

RIP. To be able to say you were the first man to walk on the moon is a hell of a legacy.

Whoa. I have mad respect for Neil Armstrong, but I can't go that far. One could even argue that John Glenn was more important to the space program as a whole.

Truly one of the most amazing guys ever. Absolutely nerdy, but incredibly, ridiculously courageous/brave. Read his book, it's crazy all the stuff he experienced.

I wonder how he figured out what he would say once he arrived? (One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind, I believe).

Dunno how he came up with it, but I know he blew the line. Should've been "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" (source). Can't really blame him, though. Who wouldn't be so excited?

Communications were terrible for Apollo 11, and radio contact before decent was actually being bounced from Collins in the CSM to Eagle. They regained but still had problems. There was a drop out. Fortunately they figured it out so well we later had color TV from the moon, live.

I remember watching the CBS coverage of the Moon landing. The expression on Walter Cronkite's face was priceless when we heard, "Houston, the Eagle has landed." I was cheering in front of the TV. I still get chills thinking about it. No one dreamed that we would have a few more Moon landings and then simply walk away for decades. Crazy. I'm shocked that Armstrong lived to the age of 82 and didn't see us establish a Lunar base, or walk on Mars. He'll be missed.

I don't know much about the history of Apollo 11 aside from that Neil Armstrong was in it, but wasn't there someone else who stood on the mood with him?

    Edwin Eugene "Buzz" Aldrin, Jr.

Buzz was the pilot, and exited the capsule after Armstrong.

How come Buzz Aldrin doesn't get that much fanfare from people? I know he's not the first, but still...THEY were the first, and only, right?

He was and is an a-hole. Not well liked, and didn't fit in with other astronauts very well.
