How well would an "All-White" Rockets line-up fare?

We started a "no visible ink" lineup for a good part of last year and the year before.

See? You can make a completely irrelevant generalization without flipping the race card over...

 

When I say white I mean anybody of European descent.....including white americans. I would also consider Asik white.

 

People fail to understand that American ethnic groups (with the obvious exception of first nation people) are social constructs. Genetically speaking, there is no such thing as a white american, african american, asian american etc.

This whole thread is moot when the OP is trying to say the Turks are "white".

I believe we are coming from a point of view that a "white" individual is someone of European Descent, and who's family has been here for a few generations so that they can call themselves, at least culturally, uniquely American.

If you had to distinguish several members of the roster to someone who had zero idea who to look for, yes, you'd probably point out Donuts' or Omer's white skin. But what would set them apart? You wouldn't just say hey "Look for the tall white guy". They'd probably be expecting some prototypical white American male, and would think they made a mistake when they heard the Lithuanian and Turkish accents, respectively.

I suppose my point is that most Europeans are very culturally different, and now even somewhat genetically different from their American counterparts, and to claim them all as "white" is just being ignorant of global culture and diversity.

The last time I checked, simply categorization by skin color was a bit antiquated.

The genetic difference between "whites" (white americans as you call them) and europeans is minimal at best. White american is a social construct just like every other American ethnicity with the exception of first peoples. There are some cultural differences to be sure but the differences don't go much further than that. It takes more than a few 100 years for major changes to occur. White= European/European descent Black= African/ African-descent. so on and so forth.

Agreed on the notion that the genetic differences are minimal. But all of us homo sapiens share 99% of the same genetic code; black, white, whatever.

It's a valid point, but it's a kin to saying whatever is wet when stating that whites in the United States or abroad aren't genetically different.

We don't around saying "Oh, so you are ATCGGCAT at locus 25A3B too!". Culture is what defines us, ties us together, draws borders, and tears us apart.

You wouldn't want get all excited about a rockets 'All-Brown' line-up and have your Center be from Kashmir and your point guard be from Pakistan, would you?

I'm not trying to be too PC here or anything, I'm just baffled at how superficial the OP's analysis was.

OMG - - I accept the sentiment. In NBA parlance there are African-Americans, Whites, Africans/Euros/'just' Int'ls.

I couldn't care less what the guy's heritage is I just want a solid basketball pedigree.

And as for 'All-White', what about Royce?

 

It's 2012 and not the 50s or even 60s. I want the best team on the court. We had a thread few weeks ago with the most gayest NBA players. Whats next the all time muslim team? All i want that the players of the Rockets work their ass up wether they are black, white or whatever

 

If this is a thread about color, I can safely say I have never seen a white basketball player and definitely have never seen a black one.

Royce is the only White player on the team.

And all this talk about Euros and ethnic diversity, come on people, spend some time in the D&D you'll find out that we all evolved from the same primordial ooze. Lets get back to our roots people, or ooze as it were.
