    I think this kid has a ton of upside and would much rather him play behind Lin than Douglas or Livingston.

    It's the way he said it. It was phrased all wrong. He's young, and at Iowa state I doubt he had a lot of interaction with the media even being the assist leader. Clearly needs to work with some pr or marketing people asap, or at least work on it with his agent. We all know what he as trying to say, which is cool, but what he actually said wasn't cool at all.

    But in my experience people that have to put others down to build themselves up are typically all around dbags.

    This needs to be quoted again. Seriously, people need to actually read quotes and use critical thinking 101 for themselves. Machado didn't say anything cocky and he surely didn't diss Lin. People stop making this crap to be anything bigger than it is.

    I think people are confusing Machado with our awful dread headed PG Fortson who started the first couple of SL games.

    Yes, don't compare him with the next Iverson.

    Well, it's "as big as it is" (and I really don't see it as "big"; Machado is just some dude running his mouth) because Machado gave the NY media a chance to do that. He could have been as diplomatic as possible (and he did try to be somewhat diplomatic), but he wasn't. It's clear he doesn't know how to deal with the media. Their job is basically to get "juicy" quotes out of you to sell their stories, and Machado obliged.

    In contrast, since leaving the Knicks, Lin has been goaded numerous times into saying something "juicy" about Carmelo Anthony, but Lin hasn't given the media anything to run with.

    Machado is a pretty good player, but guys that run their mouths just rub me the wrong way. If anyone here has ever been on a team, we all know it's annoying to have a teammate like that (unless you were that guy, obviously).

    My take is that Machado is somewhat jealous of Lin's success, especially with Lin doing it as the PG of the Knicks, which was his favorite team growing up (Machado is from Queens, NY). Machado likely grew up dreaming of being the Knicks' PG someday, and to see an unheralded guy like Lin rise and do just that is something he probably resented a little bit. He sees himself as the "underdog" and the guy who should get the "glory" and Lin sort of beat him to the spot.

    He tries to say some diplomatic things about Lin, using empty statements like "oh, he's talented, blah, blah, blah," but it's clear how he really feels in saying things like "I didn't buy into that Linsanity thing" or "I had a better college career than him" or "nothing against him" or "it’s a business and they’re (the Rockets) going to do what they’re going to do." It's just odd that he'd say stuff like that. Especially for an undrafted rookie. Come in with some humility, son. That **** won't endear you to anyone. Heck, it'd be a little weird for a 1st Round Pick to say things like that.

    Like the "nothing against him" part. We all know that's a back-handed statement. We've all used it before. That's how you talk when you either don't like or think much of a person for whatever reason or have jealous feelings. It's something that occurs in life, whether it's at work or in the social arena or whatever the case may be.

    Here's an older ESPN blog post from Henry Abbott that sort of sums up how some other basketball players (or just regular people in general) feel about "Linsanity":

    Why did this get bumped again? He got waived?

    Or just for the sake of arguing?

    Seriously. Every player should aspire to be a starter but this kind of talk is more like he's going to be a drag to have around if he's not one. That's no way for a guy in his position to make himself attractive to any team.

    People don't realize that a lot of these "reporters" take players words out of context and more often than not flat out lie. I put no credence on what this guy said. Half of it is probably not even true.

    Good idea. From now on, if we don't like what a player says let's just pretend the reporter made it up.

    You don't realize how much these reporters lie though? And this is the NY daily news, the same organization that is run by the owner of fox. The same organization that was spinning for the knicks against Lin during FA. And conveniently when the Knicks decide not to match Scott is interviewed the very next day and delivers "provocative" comments. You don't find this just a little bit fishy.

    Compare what Machado said with what Lin said when he first signed with GSW, you will see why Machado offended so many people:

    Here's the entirety of Scott's quotes from the article. WHY all the heated over analysis?

    Red = "negative"
    Green = positive

    Check it. Why you mad, Clutchfans?

    I wasn’t on his bandwagon. I was a Knicks fan and we were winning with him, so I was just happy. I feel like Jeremy Lin is a good player - nothing against his game - but I want to show my talent and be able to play there as well. If I have to sit behind him for a little while then that’s fine, but hopefully one day I’ll be starting for an NBA team. He’s shown what he could do, and like you said, I had a better college career than he did. And he just got a chance to show what he can do. He’s more of a scorer, and I’m more of a real point guard. It would be fun for a while [backing Lin up], but I wouldn’t like it. I’d want to play. It’s a business and they’re going to do what they’re going to do. I feel like I’m in the same situation he was last year. He was undrafted, ended up with a bunch of teams and ended up with the Knicks, and he ended up doing a good job with the Knicks. Now, he got a big contract and he’s an excellent player. I feel like he has a lot of talent, and he came from an underrated school, and he was able to show his talent. So I feel I’ll be able to do that as well... I’ll back him up if I have to."

    I believe you're mixing up the NY Daily News with the NY Post, but I'm not sure. Rupert Murdoch owns the Post. I doubt he also owns its competitor. I also don't know why it would occur to any reporter of any ilk to make up Scott frigging Machado quotes. That's ToyCen level conspiracy theory. In what universe would anybody even care what Machado said enough to misrepresent it?

    I think this is rather a case of you not liking the quote and looking for a reason to believe it was fabricated. This is what Republicans do with climate change.

    If Machado said, "I didn't say that," or "I didn't say it like that," or "That's not what I meant," or "I was taken out of context," then I'd consider your line of thinking. But to just decide the reporter is lying because you don't like what was said? That's weird.

    New York fans want to see Lin crucified and downplayed as much as possible in every article. It's not about Scott Machado.

    And nice, being so politically partisan that you have to mention Republicans in a GARM post. Thumbs up!
