Rounded corners and touchscreens = iPhone? I hope Apple gets buried. They are trying to monopolize the smartphone market not by eliminating their competition, but preventing them from putting out phones that are better than theirs without getting sued into oblivion.
All I know is I'm glad I have never pitched a cent to Apple and their shady bull**** corporation. Hey look competition! Let's sue them because we are ****ing monopolistic greedy douchebags. I hope their new iPhone bombs without input from Steve Jobs. What a pathetic greedy company that can't handle a little competition. I believe their employees also have the lowest mean salary out of all large corporations in the US.
In some of the software patents, this definitely could be an issue. Hence why I'd hate to see it happen, but it certainly could now. As far as Samsung specifically...well, they brought this on themselves. (provided whatever sure to come appeals don't pan out) They didn't look too sharp in this trial. Huge internal documents pointing out how to make their phones more like the iPhone, email correspondence between execs to designers on how the Samsung design was in 'crisis' because it wasn't like the iphone, email where Samsung (and Google) consultants warned that their designs were 'too similar' to the iphone....and all this after they kept testifying that they didn't have Apple under consideration when working on their designs. It's not really surprising that they didn't come out too cleanly in this. But then again, it only cost them $1 billion to position themselves as one of the top phone makers, so maybe they considered the risk worth it. (or maybe, since they got away with it in the past, they weren't too worried about it period I suppose).
I overreacted, but I'm sick of r****dedly vague patents like this screwing over everyone. I wouldn't care if just the corporation is getting sued, but we are getting screwed over as well. Might as well just not let anyone make touchscreens anymore because Apple patented it. What kind of bull**** is that? The US needs patent reform. Because this BS is stifling innovation. Next thing you know Apple is going to sue Google for having an app store. I don't know about you guys but I want a wide array of choices when I'm shopping for things. There needs to be some sort of patent review board to throw out all the patents that are WAY TOO VAGUE. Just came across this quote on Reddit: Wow. I hate patents. Patents screwed Nikola Tesla out of his livelihood thanks to Thomas douchebag Edison and screwed us all out of the free wireless energy Tesla was working on. Patents HURT consumers.
"Appleās strategy to stay on No. 1 position is to oppose every other company by throwing infringement cases in Free Land (USA). Samsung need to know about Apple. If you release even a innovative product, make sure you also need to fight with Apple." ^^^ I got this comment off of an article that I've read, and I totally agree with it.
The patenting laws are killing innovations, and in the end only hurt the consumers. What's next, Boeing putting a patent on anything that have wings
I completely agree with you. As much as I hate to say it, Apple and Microsoft are possibly the worst offenders here. Have you heard how microsoft resolves patent issues? They accuse you of violating their patents but don't tell you where/when/how you did it. They make you sign a non-disclosure agreement and then they show you how you did it. They don't show you code. They don't show you exactly what you did, but they hint at it and threaten you with their legal team. Then they get you to give them $5 per device you sell. I love microsoft, but you can't do this. It hurts competition, it hurts the industry and it hurts consumers. It isn't fair or right. Even as a chemist I do not support patents at all.
This is awful. The only beneficiaries are Apple and it's shareholders. Effective right now, add me to the crowd that despises Apple. Hopefully Google and it's Android partners will adapt and won't be hindered too much going forward. Apple has innovated itself into being the #1 patent troll of all time.
If apple wins against others and stops all touch screen phones, I'm ok with using a key pad again. I don't need touch screen, give me a psp2 like device phone with battery and I'm more than happy.
