Not sure where I heard this, but reason why people from poorer countries have lower rates of depression is because they don't have time to sit around and be depressed. They have to work hard for food for their starving families.

Hmm, Swoly has yet to make a complete ass of himself.

In closing, ride a bike and breathe some air. No such thing as depression.

Yeah, I'm depressed. I think I'm that one where you swing between happiness and depression.

Life just doesn't seem worth it, it's like why even bother?

Cue the mother****ers who are going to reply saying I'm whiny or ungrateful.

Wow. Maybe people are more likely to answer this poll if it applies to them, but still... looks like it affects a lot of people.

Seems like just about all my friends have been diagnosed with either depression or something else psychological/social. (bipolar, Asperger's, etc.) Being the only non-medicated one, I always figured they just hadn't caught me yet. :) But I don't know how it feels to have true depression. Bad times can get me down, or especially feeling lonely or isolated, but after a short time I get sick of feeling bad and ready to move past it or do something about it. Can't judge others even though it's tempting, because obviously it's not that simple for a lot of people.

That's Bipolar, or Manic Depression in the old-tongue.

It can be one of the most debilitating conditions to have. Please seek help, it's not curable at the moment but can be evened out by a psychiatrist (80% success rate) to let you lead a normal life
Anyone who considers you whiny are idiots and have no idea how bad it can be

I was depressed when I broke up with my ex-girlfriend. Time passed. I got happy again, and started enjoying life again. Met a new girl! I am depressed again....

15% of clinically depressed patients DIE from suicide (the 8th leading cause of death in the US.)

Thats not even counting number of attempts or other medical conditions with a direct relation to it

Depression can become so severe you can't even get up from bed, it can cause you to lose everything and not even being able to function as a person anymore.

http://www.allaboutdepression.com/gen_01.html - please read this, ignorance about depression is a hugely significant factor to the problem

Stay strong, Bats (hope it doesn't annoy you when people say that to you). Both my mom and dad were bipolar, so is my older brother, and younger brother had a few moments as well, but medication has him pretty balanced lately. Me? Well, the jury is still out on me.

Drinking 15-year-old-Glenfiddich alone while listening to Charles Bradley and Lee Fields, thinking about past mistakes... Yeah, I might have been a little depressed :)
