I'd try to package Turner and Helu and get a better back (maybe Bradshaw for example). I think Turner will have a major drop off this year. Turner started to look slow and washed up the second half of last year aside from his final game when he broke off a big run. Lucky for you he probably has value in your league because he did put up really nice numbers overall last year but I think this year the Falcons are going to focus more on the passing game by letting Ryan air it out to Roddy/Julio and I know the Falcons are planning on using Jacquizz more especially because he can catch as well. I'm thinking Quizz will be used like Darren Sproles. Helu is a good back and I had him last year but I can't deal with the heart ache of "Shenanigans." Helu would get 23 carries and rush for a 100 one week and just when you think it's safe to start him full time going forward the very next week he only gets 6 carries as Shanny inserts the 3rs string RB. A few weeks later when you've moved on he inserts Helu and he again gets the ball 20+ times and rushes for 100+ again. Nothing is more frustrating than Shanny's thought process.
You should be set at QB/WR, but honestly RB is the position of weakness this season, and a lot of folks are reaching on "sexy" guys like Richardson and Doug Martin when there are latter round values like Green-Ellis, McGahee, and even Jonathan Stewart that can be had later. I think in that sense it was wise to grab a production guy in McGahee, even if he will drop off from last season. Helu is intriguing because of his ability to catch the ball, but he's also looking at possibly starting the season on the PUP list. Any injury concern whatsoever with a RB is a red flag, the punishment they take over the course of the season just mandates this. I like Fred Jackson a lot more than Michael Turner this year. The toughest thing about fantasy is juggling potential versus proven. If Richardson had 2 knees in great shape, I'd have no problem with it, but even if he is healthy it is very hard to predict if a back is going to have success on a bad team because of a lot of factors. Tony Romo is falling like a rock in a lot of drafts, and as a backup, he is a good value... but also keep in mind that Witten, Bryant, and Miles Austin are all dealing with injury woes already and the season hasn't even started. Without those weapons it is hard to see him putting up his usual underrated production.
Like I said, Richardson was kind of a "hold my nose and do it" pick, because he has the highest ceiling of all the RBs I took. He's a virtual lock to average 25 carries a game, and even if he sucks, that still equates to a decent start each week. I had my eye on BJGE and Bradshaw, but they were both snagged after my Fred Jackson pick. Like you, I like Jackson a lot. So, I'm thinking if I play it smart, I should be able to squeeze out 14-15 points a week from RB platoon, and with my QB-WR depth, that should be enough to keep me in good shape. I will explore trades for suckers looking for QB or WR help early in the year though.
Just finished mine, in a "rebuilding" year (Keeper League). Took home my first trophy last season. Rivers - RGIII, Luck Fitzgerald, V Cruz, D Bryant - K Wright C Johnson, C Benson - R Jennings, K Hunter J Finley - Fleener Pats D R Gould I do need at least one more bench WR, there was a goof as we drafted that messed me up (thought I had Brandon Lloyd).
Yes, I'm crazy. I took both Graham & Gronk. Team #1 (12 team league, standard scoring, 2 RB/1 WR/1 TE/W-R flex/W-T flex) Round/Pick/Player(Team - Position) 1 11 Jimmy Graham(NO - TE) 2 14 Rob Gronkowski(NE - TE) 3 35 DeMarco Murray(Dal - RB) 4 38 Jordy Nelson(GB - WR) 5 59 Dwayne Bowe(KC - WR) 6 62 Jay Cutler(Chi - QB) 7 83 DeAngelo Williams(Car - RB) 8 86 Ben Tate(Hou - RB) 9 107 Reggie Wayne(Ind - WR) 10 110 Andrew Luck(Ind - QB) 11 131 Toby Gerhart(Min - RB) 12 134 Jacquizz Rodgers(Atl - RB) 13 155 Cincinnati(Cin - DEF) 14 158 Robbie Gould(Chi - K) 15 179 Kevin Smith(Det - RB)
It is kinda crazy (first two rounds?) since you can only play one....but at the same time, you locked the rest of your league out. You might want to flip one for an elite WR. I think you might struggle to get enough points on a week to week basis.
We have a W/T flex in my league (I edited it in), so Graham and Gronk can both play. Graham/Gronk are pretty equal to Fitz/Andre, so this is just as good as an elite WR, IMO of course.
Interesting gamble. My only critique is now you are banking on both Graham and Gronk replicating (or coming close to) their record-setting performances last year. You are going to struggle to get good production out of your RB spots and your QB is a 1st tier backup. You are basically hoping Peterson or Foster get hurt with the Tate and Gerhart picks, even though Tate still retains value as the league's top backup. Rodgers is another "hope Turner breaks down" type pick, and Kevin Smith is a decent late round flier. Murray has a lot of question marks and the Dallas offense already looks ready to fall off the rails. So you basically have a lot of questions at RB right from the get go and are probably going to be watching the waiver wire like a hawk for the chance to land a starter. Bowe and Nelson are both solid picks. With Nelson you ignored the "don't pay for a career year" rule. It is doubtful he'll put up 15 TDs again, but at pick 38 you just hope he gets you 80% of that and its still a decent value. Reggie Wayne is being undervalued on the surface, but we don't really know how he's going to fit in an offense where he's being asked to line up in different positions for the first time in his 12 year career. Could work out nicely, or he could continue to regress while a guy like Hilton emerges. The Cutler/Luck combo is a good gamble as well. Cutler looked good last year even without Marshall before he got hurt (14 TD / 7 INT). I recently had the opportunity to pick one of them in the 8th round and opted for Cutler because I like proven over potential when it comes to QB play.
I think you have to allow for the fact that he was starting off picking 11th in a 12 team league. I like it better since they do W/T....though I definitely agree Graham and Gronk went way too early. That couldn't have been top value on the board. Cutler and Luck....~11th and 12th best QBs in a 12 team league. Have to hope Luck delivers big by midseason. D Murray, B Tate, D Williams, J Rodgers, Smith....I agree that the overall ceiling here is suspect. Murray's MAYBE the 12th best back out there, Tate is top tier only if Foster turns an ankle, Williams is not much, and Rodgers is a complete gamble behind Turner. I'd personally cut Williams and replace him with a real contributor asap. W/T: Graham and Gronk are your elite TEs....but they don't really equate to elite WRs (maybe Gronk does)*. And if it is a flex W/T system, other guys can simply ignore TE in favor of better producing WRs...eliminating the advantage of locking up the top two guys at a position. This really did make or break your season. Nelson, Bowe, and Wayne are good, especially in a deeper league, but they aren't winning games for you each week. * Not Fitz. Gronk is on par with Jennings/Andre if you really like him and aren't especially high on them. Graham's a full notch below, more with Dez Bryant and Rhoddy White.
Outside of Megatron, I see no reason to go WR early at all this year. Best plan of action is to nab a QB and best player available regardless of position. Graham is probably equal to Fitzgerald, but it is hard for me to take Fitz over Victor Cruz or Julio Jones, especially if those guys are available later on.
My ideal top two (9th pick in 14-team league) is Stafford/S. Jackson, then nab Lawfirm or McGahee in one of the next two rounds. Then focus on WRs/TE.
