From the same mall that brought us the "shoe connoisseurs" last year around Christmas...

....now they've resorted to a new "cutting edge" approach to get the shoes...from above...

Shoe thieves cut hole in mall roof

The things people will do for a new pair of shoes.

According to the Houston Police Department, John Gant, 19, and two accomplices were so taken with the new Air Jordans that they climbed onto the Greenspoint Mall roof early Wednesday and broke through to a shoe store.

Police quickly captured Gant and a 16-year-old boy. A third suspected burglar, thought to be 16 or 17, remains at large.

About 4:45 a.m. the trio cut a hole in the roof of the mall at 12300 North Freeway. As of late Wednesday, an HPD spokesman still had not determined what tools they used.

They dropped into the Foot Action USA store and gathered 16 pairs of the popular athletic shoes, which priced at about $175 each, authorities said.

A security guard spotted them inside the closed business and called police.

They made their way back onto the roof and ran when police arrived.

HPD officials said they have a possible identity of the third suspect.

Officers found more than a dozen shoe boxes on the roof near the hole the three teens made to enter the mall.

HPD officials believe the burglars may have gotten onto the roof in the past to confirm the location of the shoe store.

Gant and the teenager are accused of felony burglary of a building and misdemeanor evading arrest.

Bail for Gant was set at $3,000 for both charges.

That's what happens when you get greedy. They should of just gotten a pair for themselves and made a run for it.

Is it really that easy to cut a hole in the roof of a mall?

This might have been about a different shoe, but I thought the Urban League already called for this release to be canceled, because they are so expensive that they will cause too many problems. Apparently shoe manufacturers are just flat out ignoring mandates from the Urban League now?

I HOPE the get money boys didn't have anything to do with this.

    :(

Not bad I feel. I assume all the stores have lights on even while it is closed? How else would the security guard see them in the store? If they turned them on to see then that's dumb. I would invest in some Night vision goggles.

I'm also surprised that the guard was doing his job at 430 in the morning, I would have snuck into Dillard's and sleep on their mattresses.
