Please, for the love of God, Hakeem, or Jeremy Lin, show us some HARD EVIDENCE. Don't rely on photos. Don't rely on assumptions that Wall didn't train. Just point to some hard facts. That would end the argument.
Exactly, well said. He has great explosiveness it just don't think it is elite. Nothing wrong with that at all. If he proves me wrong this season so be it.
A photo is a lot more accurate than some measurement somewhere on the net that has no video evidence to back it. Nor do we know how the measurements were done and if they were accurately taken etc Believe me there are many ways to cheat or not do them properly... If someone bangs their head on the rim, and I know their height, you can safely assume a pretty close number of their actual vert. A lot more accurately than relying on the reach method used in draft combines, which doesn't take into account the stretching of the body when you reach up when jumping.
But you realize that the NBA uses the BAM scores as an evaluation method. It seems silly to assert that BAM would cheat or not do them properly. Clearly the numbers are accurate enough for the NBA to rely on them so as a fan why doubt it? It is BAMS business to provide accurate information and to test the figures properly it seems absurd to say that they cheated or didn't do it properly.
There are way too many variables for the photos/videos to be reliable. A persons vertical in game can depend on how much energy they've already exerted, if they are playing in a back-to-back, other player positioning, etc. Most importantly, you don't know if the photo itself shows a persons MAX vertical. It could be them on the way up or down. These pre-draft combine (i.e. BAM) numbers attempt to eliminate all those extraneous variables. If BAM scores say Lin is not in the class of Wall or Irving, I put far more weight on that then a few photos.
The problem with Lin is that he is not athletically gifted. He have to work hard at it to get to that level and have to keep up his regiment to substance at that level. If his shooting and play making improve over the years he will rely less on having to substance that kind of athleticism. Right now he is a young and raw player that will solely need his athleticism to compete at this NBA level until he improve on his overall skill sets that will rely less of his athleticism to get by.
I'm an athlete in junior high school. My major is high jumping. Later I chose to study hard because athlete is not a good job with no future of mine in Taiwan. When I joined a high jump game in college (I did a good job in Entrance Exam to college.) a teacher of physical education called me 'speed up'. That height is almost my athletic ceiling. After I changed my running way, I can't believe that I make it with a silver medal. My photo posted in a board in front of the GYM, I looked at the photo and thought that high jumping ceiling of mine is never considered before. It is at lease up to 1.90m. Another case when I joined a 100 X 4 race in the junior varsity in Taipei City. My coach trained us to be the first place about 45.9sec. That high grade we had never thought about because we did never practice in the high speed until the real final race came to us. I think the ceiling of Jeremy Lin is sky. It depends on contender.
People worry too much about Lin athleticism. Best thing is name successful players past or present that is of Lin height that isn't as quick or very athletic. His body isn't genetically build for that so his chances of getting injure is pretty high. No way his body can substance the way he play during that run in NY. It's fine that he is working hard to get to the elite level of athleticism when he needed it.
First off, JLin is an athlete. That's his profession and at the highest level. He's in the NBA for crying out loud. So, he's expectd to be physically gifted in many ways. And imho, he very clearly is. But Even if Lin had the same vertical as DRose or Russ, Max vert is not indicative of the explosiveness everyone is contending that Lin does not have. It has to do with the lack of power and spring in his core muscles. I'm a believer in Lin's elite speed and first step (explosive on the floor) but although speed is a great indicator of athleticism, in the sport of basketball, the spring and power in your jump is often synonymous with athleticism. You gotta let it go. It doesn't even matter. Let's just have a great season and have people wondering why Lin keeps going by them on offense and staying in front of them on defense. Stop turning people off to Lin by being overly zealous. Irregardless whether you're right or wrong, you got to give people their say and respect it. Let it go, brother
Based upon multiple photos taken since his college days, we know Lin's vertical is a MINIMUM of 35." This is a very conservative estimate, based upon a maximum net length of 18, and net length can be as little as 15." Therefore, we know that Lin's vertical is a minimum of 35" and may be as high or higher than 37."
Your elite level ignorance is truly outstanding. The data shows Lin's speed measurements are basically identical to #1 overall draftees. You're too stupid to realize that BAM data and assessment CONTRADICTS your beliefs.
This is just about the dumbest statements among dumb statements on this board. Take a look at Lin's bam scores and measurements prior to his entering the league. His scores right in line with the elite young point guards. MASSIVE FAIL!
Lin's start speed is faster than Usain Bolt's: His top speed is in line with other elite PGs, and his average speed is the highest. Your racist generalizations don't stand up in the face of objective test data.
And yet you choose to ignore them and say that Lin is not explosive when his speed data is superior to those of Kyrie, Wall, and Rose. That's just plain stupid.
He doesn't have to prove you wrong. BAM data shows you are wrong already. Please learn to read before you write.
