Nobody is claiming it isn't a severe problem. It is a mistake, if he regretted it. None of us know him. None of knows how he feels or why he did what he did. Clearly there are anger issues, and perhaps more. I would like to see us try and fix his problems.

It's actually quite sad how many NBAers have been booked for domestic violence.

Anger control in HS wouldn't actually be a terrible thing.

I bet if he gets into the NBA and ends up as a deeply buried role player they'd make a movie about his rise from prison to the pros.
    He has an opportunity here!

You keep saying "it's a mistake", but this, for me at least, is where the disconnect occurs. No, it isn't a "mistake", even if he regrets it. A "mistake" would be something not in line with your usual character. This isn't a "mistake", this is who he is. If it was a one-time thing, maybe you could argue it's a "mistake". But he has shown that this is a pattern of behavior that is intrinsic to him, as demonstrated by threatening her after the legal proceedings began. Until he can show that this is NOT who he is as a person, he doesn't deserve to be free from incarceration.

Admirable, but why he did what he did doesn't change our obligation, as a society, to remove him from contact with others until we can say, with some degree of certainty, he is no longer a threat. If he cannot control himself (and his actions say he cannot, at this time), then it's up to us to control him for the safety of others.

I doubt that, he's not even a top 100 national recruit on Rivals. He might be a top 100 recruit in his state.

it's amazing how people will bend of backwards to try and justify this guy not being sentenced....i wonder if they would be doing so if he wasn't a top recruit.

Yes, the charges may sound worse than actuality, but that's just a technicality. He will get out fairly quickly with good behaviour and maybe he grows up and matures a little. You have to be accountable for your actions.

Of course she's going to say all that crap to defend him and keep him out of jail. It's obviously a bargain chip just in case he makes it to the NBA or College or become a basketball star.

Yeah no one's saying he shouldn't be reprimanded, but sending this kid to prison accomplishes nothing. The judge SHOULD have just issued a writ of boys will be boys & left it up to his FAMILY to discipline him.

    Boys will be boys!
