That should mean nothing, she was in love with him and has confused feelings. What about all the girls/wives that are getting abused by their men and don't come out? Same with kids that want to protect their parents or relatives.

He hadn't decided. In a perfect world, he would get a short stay in prison to see what kind of life he could be facing, with a lengthy probation. College coaches would tell him that they are withdrawing their scholarship offers and encourage him to go to JUCO, to do community service, and that they will check in with him a year later to see if he has bettered his life.

Kid obviously has problems, and has made a terrible mistake. He needs the opportunity to learn from it, and grow as a man.

I wonder if the GF was white or black and if that had anything to do with the sentence. If the victim says let him go then why should the state prosecute him.

Do you think his next victim will care that his last victim didn't want him in jail?

I can't say really whether it was excessive or not, the charges sound trumped up, but if it were my daughter getting dragged by the hair and threatened etc, I bet it would sound lenient.

I will say that her reverting to supporting him isn't that convincing since he has a history of threatening her.

Number one, 6 months is a long time (he'll miss his senior year of HS).

Number two, the judge can change her mind in 180 days, which isn't as nice as having possible parole in 6 months. I hope the judge revises her ruling.

Guy beats his girlfriend but she doesn't want him in jail.

OK fine we let him out.

Same guy beats his next girlfriend, this time he kills her.

Sorry about your bad luck on being #2.

Go ahead and give him the death penalty. Obviously a future murderer.

Do you realize how completely stupid it is for us to think that way? That nobody ever makes a mistake?

Victims never decide if someone is prosecuted.Should we make an exception for this guy, just because he has skills on the basketball court.

..anyway,3 years is a slap on the wrist. He'll probably be out in less than a year.I know someone that only did about a year on a ten year sentence.

I didn't say punish him for murder did I?

Punish him for the crime he committed, but don't let him off because the victim forgave him. Whether you believe the judicial system is meant to provide punishment or rehabilitation, neither is contingent on the victim still being angry about it.

As it sits, the 3 year is a minimum. Would require judge to change her mind in 180 days, or a pardon from an executive office.
