The source of the quote is Robert Frost. Maybe HR will come through and explain his/her message about him. I scanned a Wiki bio and didn't catch anything that explained such an accusation.
do you even know what panglossian means? of course you don't, otherwise you wouldn't have beliitled great men like MLK and ghandi. ( not sure how you lump bill worrell w/ those guys. i think it's you who must have gone off the meds). giddy, your quote is lame and so are you. here's the real D&D mantra: i'm rubber and you're glue, whatever i say bounces off of me and sticks to you.
panglossian: characterized by or given to extreme optimism, especially in the face of unrelieved hardship or adversity. Sounds right on to me.... as usual, you are trying to make a big fuss out of nothing. BTW, I think Worrell has to fit right in with that description. What is it.... four straight years picking at #14? Let us know as soon as anything you scratch out remotely approaches the least of Robert Frost's.
I think it means that education matures and broadens the mind so that one can listen to opposing sides without feeling threatened-- likely because you have already considered that opposing viewpoint and found something lacking in it. For example, I'm all for a woman having control over her own body.... up until it comes to the point where she can destroy another life in pursuit of her self-control. To me that is grossly short-sighted. My wife and I were asked to go to a pro-Choice march in 1980; we talked it over and decided we could not in good conscience do that. About eleven years later, 1991 or so, I started attending a Christian church. I know that doesn't fit the convenient narrative assigned to me but it's the truth.
Another "contribution" completely lacking in content. Maybe you should go back to posting lyrics that you think are appropriate-- at least they have a modicum of meaning.
I'm all for a country having control over its own territory.... up until it comes to the point where it can destroy and wipeout hundreds of thousands lives in another country in pursuit of it's self-control. To me that is grossly short-sighted.
I, too, prefer more Isolationism. We live on the most abundant continent. The rest of the world needs more of what we have to offer than we need what they have. (I see what you did here.)
Do you feel as if people are not adequately considering your viewpoint, or that people are somehow threatened by your viewpoint?
Some of both. Two things to notice: 1. People re-cast any conservative position and malign it as an invalid religious viewpoint. And then they feel comfortable calling further discussion "off limits." 2. Look at the number of ad hominem attacks that the Left dumps onto the Right. It ain't even close. I'll bite back when I've had enough but I don't think I've ever launched an ad hominem attack on someone for the position they take on something. Thus I thought the Frost quote was prescient about the D&D and I joked about a new mantra....
Blame the individual, blame me. Don't dump it on a group at large. I don't look at BigTexxx and Hightop and proclaim, "OH MY GOD every conservative is like those two!" I know some conservatives in real-life and our conversations are pretty civil. I also know some conservatives here on the BBS that I don't vehemently dump ad hominem on since they don't deserve it like BigTexxx, Trader Jorge, and Hightop do. Commodore for one. You as well. Although I can't guarantee that I have avoided ad hominem against you both in the past, I attempt to limit them to the notorious three aforementioned.
I have noticed that you tend to take things personally or as personal comments toward you. For instance, in the other thread where we are suddenly discussing abortion again I made a comment about abortion only existing as a political issue due to a specific religious morality. Somehow this appeared to you as a direct reference to your religion. It was not, it was a reference to the topic under discussion. Not everything is about you. The world does not revolve around you, it simply evolves around you. Don't take things so personal. They aren't about you.
1. I take ad hominem attacks personally because they are personal. If you quote my remark and make a snippy reply, I take that personally, too. But if I took it that personally, I'd just vacate the joint! It irks me more than truly offends me. 2. Your interpretation of the dialogue in that other thread is mistaken because I consider my pro-Life position to be Humanitarian and rooted in science. That image that mc mark mocking posted of a ~"child" in my world will always become a child (perfect or imperfect/live birth or still birth). That's just the science of it. Beyond that trying to determine at what point after conception it is a valid human being is a religious exercise... be it Christian religion or Civil religion or whatever.
