I've never been the hugest Blizzard fan, but they've definitely been one of my favorite devs simply due to the quality stuff they continually pump out, along with generally good communication with fans. I skipped Diablo 3 (due to "always-online" concerns and simply not having the time), but planned on playing it eventually. Some of the negative feedback bothered me, but I guess I should have expected the series to take a step or 2 back.

Now I'm learning that the company seems full of a bunch of crybabies who act like they're still in high school. Here's a brief summary on those latest set of events.

David Brevik, who founded Blizzard North and helped create the franchise, had this to say about D3:
This is how Blizzard employees (including the director for D3) publicly responded on Facebook:

    Then you also have this:

Even if they're right (debatable), very unprofessional and stupid to make these (public!) comments on Facebook. Kind of curious if they realize why D3 sold so well (part of it might have been due solely to D3, but I'd guess a large portion of sales were due to success of D1 and D2).

Guess I'll be throwing Blizzard in with the rest of Activision products.

(thought about putting this in the Diablo 3 thread, but didn't want to take away from discussion of the game)

It is pretty hilarious how they're patting themselves on the back for the sales numbers of a game that are purely based on the success and fan following created by the first two games in the series.

They're obviously a bit delusional, but they each probably spent thousands of hours on developing that game. I'd be shocked if they weren't offended.

This stuff probably happens all the time, but the game industry does a much better job of keeping drama and feuds out of the public eye than any other arm of the entertainment industry.

But, yeah, maybe the guy should have toned down his gloating just a bit, especially if he had anything to do with Hellgate London.

And what ruined D3 is what's ruining a lot of other video games, greed.

Hellgate London was a decent game, EA's business model is what killed it.

Anyway, how much more "toned down" can you be? He was very polite and offered mild constructive criticism and a differing opinion about the game... and the devs launched into full butthurt flamewar mode.

Making money has changed Diablo 3, but it didn't have to ruin it. There were a lot of decisions made about the fundamentals of the game that were short-sighted, the balance was lacking, difficulty progression was out of whack, there were a TON of little interface flaws that were overlooked, and the loot table was a total joke. I liked the RMAH, fyi, I think legitimizing the black market was a smart move.

I agree with DonnyMost. Not sure how Brevik could have worded his comments any better, especially since he was asked directly about D3 (in such a way to invite criticism and comparisons to the previous 2 games). Fairly consistent with what I've seen from other developers in this scenario...or the better ones anyway (of course, there are some of the "FU LOSER!" variety).

Here's the full interview with him BTW:

I would not have been as kind as Brevik with my comments in regards to D3 which I consider to be an abomination.

    More at the link.

    What a loser.

    Maybe Blizzard will hire me.

Diablo 3 sucks compared to D2 and D1.
However, all this bashing is just unwarranted. Its not bad, it just didn't live up to the UNREALISTIC hype.

The new patch is a huge meh to me.

It will probably take more than a thousand hours to reach the max level, all the while getting the same crappy loot as before. And it almost forces you to spend time with only one character. Legendary items now seems a lot more epic, but I will probably never get one unless I buy it from the AH.

Really doesn't seem that exciting to me.

Doesn't really matter to me if you guys discuss that here (this thread might have just about runs its course), but there have already been some comments about the patch in the Diablo 3 thread:
    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=207463
If you make any more posts, might want to make them in there. Might get more attention (now and in the future).

This game was a HUGE let-down for me. Diablo has always been about interaction, until Diablo 3 came out and put in a RMAH. Which means I can't go into a game and trade with other people because of the RMAH. I understand trying to fix the scams but man they blew it.

The game came out with more errors than the Bush administration and no dueling!!!! The Legendary's are not as good as Yellows and sometimes even Blues. I just find it hard to believe that they spent 4+ years on developing this game. Last Blizzard game I will ever buy.:mad::mad::eek::eek:
