Clutch: Hey Charles, can I ask you a few questions?
    Barkley: Sure, man.

Clutch: I write for a website called Clutch City Online and a lot of fans asked about the new rules. I know it's being casually referred to as the "Barkley Rule", but we wanted to know how you think this is going to affect your game and the Rockets game this season, being that the Rockets always do a lot of post up.

Barkley: I don't think it will affect me at all to be honest with you. I think it will give me an advantage because I know exactly how quick I have to make my move.... and it only counts if you're dribbling the ball, so if you're facing up it doesn't matter so I don't think it affects me at all.

Clutch: Who do you think is the "Team to Beat" in the West this year?

Barkley: There is a lot of good teams. I don't think there are any great, great teams. San Antonio is very good. I think the Lakers obviously are going to be better. I like our chances after that.

Clutch: We have a lot of Rocket fans here in Austin and I know many wanted to know what you think of Austin so far.

Barkley: (excited) Oh it's nice man, I had never been here before. I'm having a great time. I am. I was excited to see the city and it's been...

    Clutch: Hit Sixth Street?

Barkley: Yeah, I went to Sixth Street last night. It's an interesting street. You can get in some trouble down there. (laughter).

Clutch: Great. I saw some of practice yesterday and you looked great yesterday. I appreciate you taking the time...

    Barkley: No problem man.

It may be cliched to say good things about a superstar, but talking to Barkley then was fantastic. At first I said, "What I wanted to ask you was... " then forgot for just a second and had to look down at my sheet of paper. I was thinking a player like Charles would shoo me off but he was very cool and easy to talk to ... like Anderson he really made me feel at ease talking to him. That has to be rare in a global superstar like Charles Barkley.

If I remember right I was in a Foot Locker in the local mall watching the series when Barkley suffered that last injury (think it was achilles) it was very sad.

Charles is an entertaining person. I only watch Rocket games and don't worry about the rest of the league. However, I do watch Inside the NBA quite often because it is such a great team on that show.

If we're judging success by how much TV coverage we get, Jeremy Lin is the greatest acquisition in a long time!

We blew up a championship team for Barkley and
    we havn't recovered since
    .....yes he was/is entertaining
but I would rather have an extra ring or two....to me
this was the classic money move if there ever was one...

I remember his first game, preseason? against the Lakers and getting ejected for fighting with Shaq. Was awesome...

Also remember him getting injured in Philly and knew he was done..:(

One of my favorites even if if it was short lived.

Geez some people have no memories. We got swept by sonics 95-96.

A team of barkley, drexler, and olajuwon was a based on money and had nothing to do with barkley being a HOF.

I think that's enough internet for me today.

Yes,because it was all about chemistry.Barkley came in and it was a totally different team, sure they were good but two dominate superstars who both work in the paint is not the way to go.I like our chances better with Horry/Cassell and Hakeem that's free to own the paint.

How Ironic that some one who goes by "know your role" can't
comprehend the importance of role players
    .....we had two hall of
famers (Olajuwon/Drexler) and a great supporting cast
(Kenny Smith,Cassell,Horry,Elie,Chilcutt, oh and the who's Chucky Brown)

And they were one year removed from winning back to back rings......;)

Hakeem and Clyde were nearly done, they were no longer legitimate all stars. Barkley actually had gas left in his tank. I do know my role and it's not rewriting what transpired between those years. As I said in another post, Hakeem was not the Dream of old, he could no longer carry the team on his back, Clyde couldnt after 1996 either. A team without a star no longer has role players it has mediocre players. That year, the team got beat down by Seattle. Rockets wanted quick answers because the clock was ticking for Clyde and Hakeem, they got it. 33 rebounds in his first game.

Had Robert and Sam stepped up and made a difference the Rockets might of kept them. They did not make a difference to Seattle and they we're not going to somehow magically get us back into contention. Charles did.

    Barkley was HELLA cool.

I remember back in '99, I was at the Q gym in sugarland and I was heading upstairs to workout looking down while walking, putting my gloves on....

I hear some dude say "what's up, man?"

I look up and its Charles Barkley.....

No one else was around so he was speaking to me....I was like "oh snap!!! WHAT'S UP, DUDE!!!"...shook his hand and kept it moving.

I always thought it was cool that dude was so open like that.

Also funny that when I went upstairs...Hakeem and Pipp were there too.

I walked up to Dream...shook his hand and told his he was the best to ever do it....

Pipp was sitting on the hip abductor (spl.) machine and looked at me like "whatever, man....dont even come over here"

I knew then he was a turd....and a few months later when he dissed Barkley just so he could get out of Houston.....I was right.

    Barkley was great though!

Much props to him for coming through and trying to win a chip.

Pippen couldnt handle the pressure though....lol.....

    Straight up snatch, Pippen was/is!

stupid sonics. had they not been around, we would have four peated(93,94,95,96) and never traded horry and sammy for that round man. But you had to do what you had to to avenge the mother's day massacre at the hands of those evil sonics, even if it meant not having the clutch players that gave the j*zz fits.

Not a fan of him as a rocket but has grown on me over the years on the tnt show. Looks sexy in a dress too.

Charles is a great guy and all, but the truth is he should have never squeezed into a Houston Rockets uniform.

Saw him and Charles Jones (yep...the old timer himself) at Timberwolves off Kirby back in the day when they were on the team. Shot the **** with them for a few minutes and then they excused themselves as 4 women came in to sit with them

Yeah, we didn't get Phoenix Chuck or Philly Chuck. We got over-the-hill Chuck. He was only elite for one year with us, but I'll never forget him playing for $1 mil (cared about winning more than $) and his bottomless love for Westheimer strip clubs. God bless him, but can't stand his deep hatred for the rockets, born from deep disappointment. Maybe if he kept himself in better shape, he would have gotten that elusive ring.

This was the option I was looking for in the poll. Bringing him in might not have been the best choice, but once he was a Rocket I always liked him.
