Director Tony Scott jumped off the Vincent Thomas bridge near Long Beach on Sunday and died from his injuries. http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/tony-scott-director-top-gun-dies-apparent-suicide-52661
Had to google him. He seemed like a happy man from the pictures on google. Top Gun 2 would have been awesome
Suicide is 4 times more likely with males worldwide than with females. Yet all we hear are the syndromes and horrors and ordeals females go through. For all the drama associated with females, they seem to live through it and have a longer lifespan. (Or the hypocritical spin is the "girl power" route that women are just better equipped and men have something to "learn" instead of being "ignorant". ) Regardless, its sad that some men have to suffer internally like that. I'm hoping its a case where he got some kind of terminal illness he didnt want to live through, instead of him saying "I'm okay" when he wasnt.
So sad for his family. RIP This was on his wiki page: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/04TqHE_PDTU?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Rest in Peace Tony. Is that attempts, or success? My understanding is that Males are much likelier to be successful at suicide than females - Reason being that Males usually use things like Guns, while females use things like pills.
I've read that he was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, and that he saw a younger brother die from the same thing several years back....
I feel really bad for Ridley Scott first losing his oldest brother to skin cancer and now his youngest to brain cancer.
In cases like this, it has to do with control. It isn't so much giving up as dying with dignity. I would make the same choice rather than be a burden to my family...nothing to do w/$$$ or hopelessness
I'm torn here. I certainly have no problem, ultimately, with his decision. If inoperable brain cancer, with limited time to live, he went out his way. Alternatively, I guess more facts are needed. He has 12 year old twin sons. And while the point made above is a valid lesson, it also can contradict more valid lessons - keep fighting, never give up, etc. Scott's action was the complete opposite of, say, the Jimmy V motto. Moreover, was it a surprise even to his wife? It reads as if so, but not clear. If so, I don't care for it. Moreover, if I was in this situation, I think my life insurance wouldn't pay out if i went out that way - not something Scott needs to worry about, but just pointing out. I was on the verge of too young to fully grasp the Kevorkian drama as it was unfolding, but at it's core, I'm not sure why the country had such a problem with wishful, peaceful, painless suicides.
True Romance, one of my favorites <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0UOHmEvuroA#t=1m2s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
reports are now hinting misdirect regarding the tumor, signs pointing to depression. The manner he chose would seem more consistent with depression, it looks rash and impulsive, more so factoring the age of his kids & that he was functioning well enough to drive...hopefully lived a full and enjoyfull life & was good to the deserving
