I was hating the collars when the pics first started making their way around the web but I gotta say that after seeing the Texans with their pads on and the r****ded looking neck roll collars the rest of the league got stuck with, I'm glad the Texans stuck to their guns and we didn't get stuck with half blue and half red collars. Leave it to Nike to make the rest of the league look like a 1980s fullback rocking the neck roll.
Nike ruins all jerseys. Just look at European soccer to find out how terrible Nike is at jersey design. Adidas outclasses them in this.
Sorry... I still think the huge collars looks bad. They look like something off a woman's basketball jersey. Still don't know why we opted for them versus smaller collars or even no collars.
Supposedly, smaller collars weren't an option and McNair thought our solid red collars were a distinctive feature of our jerseys and wanted to keep them. That said, I still want to know how Carolina managed to avoid the flywire collars and maintain a smaller collar and why we couldn't do the same. Spoiler
carolina didnt use the "elite 51" design, thats why.. eagles, raiders, packers, falcons also didnt use the elite 51.. texans did use the elite 51 and chose to not use the flywire so thats why the collar is like that..
The Panthers, Packers, Eagles, and Falcons choose to keep the same materials and design of the Reebok jerseys but made my Nike. That's why the collar is smaller. They have on the old style. Drew Doughtry of the Texans tweeted me back when I asked about The huge collar. He said that there would probably be updates next year due to Player feedback and Nike Innovation. As much as we hate them, you know the players probably feel the same way.
The Panthers elected to keep the Reebok style uniforms. EDIT: The 2 guys before my post said it much better than I.
I hate them almost as much as the Rocket's pin stripe uni's.Do any other teams have a collar like our's ? I haven't seen one yet ?
the texans are the only team with elite 51 uniforms, no flywire, and 2-tone collar.. so yea the texans are the only team with the big bold collar... the only other team with elite 51 design minus the flywire collar is the steelers.. Spoiler
Sarcasm? Nike's jerseys are really cool. They are often a hit or miss in European soccer, but it doesn't matter really because each season they change them.
Could one of our esteemed jersey experts post some pics and explain the terminology ie "flywire" etc?
when they first revealed the uniforms, I didnt like the big collar, but after seeing 2 preseason games, Im getting used to, so I dont mind now.
Seems like the same thing happened with these new Nike uni's that happened with the new Adidas basketball uni's from a couple years ago. Both were made to be wore very tight fitted. Funny thing is the Rockets and the Texans both have the one uniform design that nobody else had. The Rockets have the wide shoulders and when the players first got there uni's they were obviously wearing the size they wore with the previous jerseys. Most of the players look very sloppy and the wide shoulders looked even worse. After the first few games of the preseason the players started to wear tighter jerseys as Adidas wanted and they started to look much, much better. Now with the Texans they have the Giant Collars of Doom that most of us hated when we first saw them. I hated them even more after the first game due to a lot of the players, especially the QB's not wearing the uni's as Nike intended. Now comes the 2nd preseason game and all the QB's have much tighter uni's which makes the collar look better since the uni's are not loose and sloppy. So in short, both teams have one uniform difference from everybody else, but when they adjusted to wearing their new uni's as prescribed they started looking much better! With that the uniform oddities stopped looking so out of place.
