Clearly you've never worked for a legislator. 1) They send out at least 100 letters a day, 2) They don't write all of them. So while they certainly read everything, they constantly have to be reminded about what they have said and what the have sent, because they read/send SO much. It's not easy to keep up with all of that info, even if it is on major issues.

I don't see a problem with this at all. Ryan corrected himself when he realized what he said wasn't factual. Many, if not most, politicians would just wait for it to pass.

Politicians don't write. They blindly sign whatever gets thrown in front of them.

Ryan's response was this was a "constituent service" matter like writing to request help on someone's social security or veteran's benefits. Sure, there are a ton of those and you can't be expected to remember every one.

However, how many of these "constituent service" letters requests millions of dollars of federal funding and specifically mentions the Recovery Act, a piece of legislation that Ryan was on the record criticizing? If he runs a tight(ish) ship in his own congressional office, you'd think these specific matter would be flagged and would stand out among the pro-forma veterans benefits letters ans such.

in 2010 he was asked, he lied, and waited 2 years for it to pass.
but when in 2012 Boston Globe came up with details of the letters, he suddenly admitted it.

also this don't look like real forgettable

“I was pleased that the primary objectives of their project will allow residents and businesess in the partner cities to reduce their energy costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and stimulate the local economy by creating new jobs,” Ryan wrote to Energy Secretary Steven Chu on December 18, 2009, on behalf of the Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation.

how often does the office of a congressman write directly to the Energy secretary asking for stimulus funds in behalf of his/her state's energy conservation corp.

I know a couple members of the Texas Legislature and live with someone who's worked for that body for over 20 years. Take that as you will, but something involving getting millions from a program of this nature would most definitely be on Ryan's plate. He would know one hell of a lot about it. The guy was working for his district, which I don't have a problem with at all, but I do have a problem with the consistent lies he has uncorked about getting millions for his district from the Stimulus Bill. In a perfect world, should Ryan take a lie detector test, and denied being involved in getting that money, it is a test he would fail from here to Sunday. I'd bet my own money on it.

    Paul Ryan's explanation:

    http://thinkprogress.org/election/2...e-letters-i-signed-asking-for-stimulus-funds/

So, if that's the kind of ship he runs when he's responsible for just a congressional office, what does it say about his ability to run the whole executive branch?

As I said, we are not exactly talking about a few thousand dollars in veterans benefits here.

I don't see that as anything less than BS on Ryan's part. At this point, I wouldn't trust him to run the City of Austin's sanitation department.
