that's how I feel (and Ryan as well clearly), their sound is great

who cares about the lyrics, I find them amusing, along with Morello's outrage. Relax bro.

    "FIGHT THE POWER" lol

The point is that he was ignorant of what he was listening to... that is why it is good for a chuckle.

He was listening to a band that hates everything he is trying to accomplish and believes in.

He picked the most political possible band possible.

It makes him look out of touch and clueless.

Would it keep me from voting for Ryan? No, of course not, but it is one of those "duh" moments and as such is funny and unexpected.

You know, I've heard that song on the radio, and always figured it to the Beastie Boys.

Maybe he does know, but doesn't care? Maybe its an example of how he likes something outside of what you would expect. That he has broader horizons than you think. Another possibility is that he is lying about it being one of his favorite bands. Or yes, maybe he just doesn't know what he is listening to.

I don't see that as being out of touch, unless you are saying he is out of touch with music meaning.

I have now read and listened to the lyrics to several of their songs, and am really taken back to when I used to listen to Godsmack. I wonder what Godsmack was singing about.

I used to listen to Green Day. I know their music was supposed to be political. I guess punk rock is anti-establishment in general. IDK.

I feel the need to add for some reason that RATM shows are(?)/ were extremely irritating -- a 10 minute lecture on some obscure rebel in South America followed by a song. Rinse/ repeat.

LOL, I LOVE Rage. Still listen to them all the time, especially to get going when I'm tired in the morning. I damn sure don't pay attention to the lyrics, I just like their spirit. And Morello's playing.

I'd venture to say that 99.9% of their hardcore fans have NO IDEA what any of the lyrics are actually talking about. Even if they did, they probably wouldn't care.

I'd venture to say that it's pretty hard to sit through a 10 minute lecture on Lori Berenson, the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Forces and Andean land reform at a rage concert and not suspect that there's something political here.

when i read, i could care less what the words mean, just if they look interesting. i'll read chinese when i wanna chill, german when i wanna get pumped up, and sanskrit when i plan on going clubbing later. sometimes i read arabic so i can get a balanced political view. words are cool.

People do get Chinese letters/words all the time without really knowing what they mean because they like the way they look.

Sorry for us that aren't that deep.

RATM should do a cover of Born in the USA now.

LOL, I'm sure their fans know they're "political" but that's about as far as it goes.

Interesting. As an extreme liberal, I wouldn't be missing a single note of good music if I did as you suggested. I don't love anything better than music and my tastes are very eclectic but the artists all share one thing in common with me to the best of my knowledge and that's my politics.

I would, however, be missing out on some great acting/directing in Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich, and Gary Sinise.
