This. Last year Delfino was responsible for 0.9 "estimated wins added." (source) He's not going to change our dreams of tanking.
They do have more talent than us. Nobody on our team is better than Al Jefferson, Paul Milsap or Derrick Favors. Nobody is gonna give up anything for Kevin Martin or he would be gone already.
You don't even need statistics to know that. It is just plain common sense. People are just upset with Morey for some reason or another and as a result are over reacting to a simple move.
I would rather have Danilo Gallinari at his current contract than Carmelo Anthony at his current contract.
The year before that he was worth 2 and the year before that one he was worth almost 3 The Carlos Delfino of last year is not his true talent level, it will fall somewhere in the range between 1 and 3 wins. Adding even 2 wins could make the difference between the 6th pick and the 8th pick. And realistically we weren't going to get the 6th seed in the lottery anyway since the teams in the East are so bad. Honestly I could see something like 38 or 39 wins as a best case scenario even without Delfino. With him, it's possible we could go .500 if everything breaks "well". We're not tanking.
no one has said Delfino is Kobe or Wade.. i think we are all well aware that he isn't.. So why even sign him then?? whats the point? We have Kmart and Lamb(who needs floor time) at SG and Parsons, White and Morris at SF and all 3 need floor time.. Why even sign a mediocre SF to come in and take any of their minutes up…? and don't tell me it's because they need someone to "mentor our young rookies".. because that is dumb.. why would u want our rookies to learn from a mediocre SF?? This isn't baseball where if u play rookies to early it messes with their heads.. To get better in basketball you HAVE to get on the floor and play.. Not playing White and T jones this season because you are giving minutes to a SF like Delfino who will be here 1 freaking season is dumb and will slow the development of our rookies that we all think will be apart of our core going forward.. when OKC drafted Durant, Westbrook, Jeff Green, Harden they gave them meaningful playing time as rookies to help develop them. Jeremy Lamb is about as close as we can get to a future superstar.. but instead of starting him we stay with K mart.. trade k mart and P pat and lets play the rookies.. development in them is HUGE..
Delfino was brought in to back up Lamb once Martin's traded. You don't affect win shares when you're looking at 15 mpg. Right now, the only thing Morey needs to do to rev up the engine for a 25-win season is jettison Martin and Patterson. Easier said then done unless a team needs short term help after an injury.
We will not know how significant these recent changes are, for at least 2 years. For anyone to claim they know what is going on and the significance of it this early is merely guessing. Be pateint.
This. We already have a veteran in K-Mart, we don't need another one. Delfino will only hinder the development of Lamb.
I doubt Orlando GM is stupid. I believe Orlando had to trade wherever Howard wanted to go. That was the agreement they have to follow, when Howard agreed to waived his termination option. There was never a chance for Houston to get Howard.
Then be thankful you haven't experienced true and usual suckage like so many other teams have experienced. I'm talking about 6 yrs or more. You would have probably jumped off a cliff by now.
After so many "near misses" on the trade front over the past several years, I am convinced that Morey projects an attitude of superiority, which offends the other GMs. Again, IMO, they don't like his (and our) penchant for crowing about getting the best of every deal ... perhaps so much so that they won't deal with him unless they feel like they are getting the better value.
Carlos Delfino will not be taking minutes away from Lamb or K-Mart, and he is a better small forward than Royce White (who isn't even a SF) and M.Morris. He was brought in to back-up Chandler Parsons. He won't be "minutes away" from anyone who actually could develop into a good player
Charlotte, Washington, Detroit, Orlando, arguably Toronto and Cleveland. (I don't care that they have Kyrie Irving, having the best player doesn't mean the best roster....see Cleveland 2003-2009)
Whats laughable is how naive you are. Dwight controls the situation. All he has to do is say that he will never sign for your team and the deal is off. Dwight went where Dwight wanted to. He is also coming off back surgery so he might not even play for the season they pay him for. Dwight had all the power. Do you really believe that the crap deal they took was the best deal available? It was the best deal available that got Dwight to the Lakers.
Washington definitely does not. Their front court of Nene/Okafor is better than ours and their back court of Wall Beal is likely to be better than ours too. Factoring in that they have a lot more experience it's hard to argue that their roster is definitely worse than ours. Detroit is also debatable and even Orlando. Why would I look at Cleveland for those years? They won a lot of games over that stretch.
