How come they didnt show Jeremy Lin defense after mike woodson took over? The artice just picks abit here and here and didnt show the good and bad. Jeremy is a pretty play pretty good defense.

Just remember this past season was Lin's first time to play in NBA as starter. It's really nit easy for him to play in such a competitive league. He did have some weaknesses like turnovers and not very good with left side. But he is a fast learner and smart enough to read defense and offense. If everybody treats him like a regular player, he will be fine. But because he is the first Asian American player and undrafted underdog, some PGs and sports experts want to show he is not good enough, they all tried the bestbto beat him down. Those PGs have been in the league for over 5 years. Lin is justva rookie. I hate those writers spent much time to study his games and published them. Why they don't study other players like Asik or Parson?

I remember Shump picking up a lot of fouls by aggressively harassing the ball-handler while not considering the level of contact the refs were allowing for each particular game. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.

Going back to topic, in Pruiti's video examples of Lin getting beaten off the dribble, Lin often looked like he gave up once his guy got to the paint. I don't think trying to avoid foul trouble is enough to explain that. Perhaps he did that a lot, but for what it's worth, that doesn't stick out in my memory, and I watched all the games. Makes me wonder if my memory and eyeball are less reliable that I make them out to be. So that made me wonder about the context of those games.

Which games are these video examples coming from? From referencing the schedule from last year, these are the dates of the five Pruiti examples.

1st example: March 26 Milwaukee. Keep in mind that this is likely after the knee injury. In the March 24 game game against Pistons, Lin complained about a sore knee, and an MRI later revealed the meniscus tear.

2nd example: Feb 20 vs. New Jersey. This isn't Woodson era yet, since MDA resigned on March 14.

3rd and 4th example: March 23 against Raptors. A day before the 'sore knee' was reported.

5th example: Feb 8th against Washington. Early game, before Woodson era.

So, three examples are close to when the meniscus tear was diagnosed, and two are from early Linsanity. None from the good stretch of Woodson-era of games. Anyway, there's some context for those who are wondering.

On most of those possesions on the defense video, it looked like he just wasn't giving enough effort. If he would have actually tried, he could have blocked some of those shots.

I think Lin is an average defender, but I hate people over-criticize his flaws.
As a young player, he can improve.

When the writer talked about his weaknesses, he should put his strength together, including his steals and the team defense W/WO him.

Not really if you take assists, defense and other stuff into account.

My post was on the to/ast ratio on this specific transition topic. If a player has one of the highest t/o ratios and least ppg% in transition then he's not as good as you make him out to be, no matter how good he looks for the random observer. If he's bottom in these two areas then there's no hiding that he's not as efficient as you want on transition.

Lin's injury is also a reason his doubters talked about.

From the end of the bench to starter playing 35-40mins, he was overused by D'Antoni. He is working on his catch & shoot. It may help him penetrate less

Yeah your right , the Rockets are ****ed for the next 3 yrs, Les doesn't know what he's doing, they should start the rooks and forget that they've made another mistake. Oh and fire Moray and hire this Sab dude.

Numbers and ball don't lie, but I do agree that context is very important.

Those ISOs can include jumpers that were deemed iso'd against him. But remember that under D'toni, they did a lot of switching PnR's , sometimes leaving Lin out of position against the PG, and many of the times when the PG scored was when they managed to exploit the ineptness of the (lack of) defense of Amare and even Jeffries to some extent.

I highly disagree that he lacks the lateral quickness to handle most PGs. Case in point, he was able to keep guys like Jennings in front of him in TRUE ISO situations most of the time. Also keep in mind that dude was probably playing with a torn meniscus for the last few weeks before we even knew about it.

There's no doubt he needs to work on his D and he isn't a freak athlete like Rose and Westbrook. But I also don't think, physically, there's going to be a continuing issue with him on D. Cause keep in mind he's also 6'4 with shoes on and is a pretty quick/fast and nimble athlete at that size, especially at the PG position.

This. You have more thorough analysis than the writer. Lin is an excellant defender if he's not too tired from what I've seen.
