LOL are you sure he's a friend? Cruz will likely double old man Wayne's prodction in fantasy points. Ben Tate is nice ... real nice but unless something happens to Foster he's not going to get enough touches to warrant Victor Cruz. Cruz is a bonafide stud and I'm wary of players that burst onto the scene 1 year and completely disappear because it happens all too often but I think Cruz is the real deal. There's no reason why he can't have the type of year he had last year.

That's exactly what I was thinking but the upside is too great. I don't think he'll have a drop off either.

Is it worth it take a middle round pick on a top defense, or should I just wait? I guess I've had mixed results. I ended up snagging the Texans off waivers last year and played a lot to matchups, and that worked ok. But I'm looking for any ways to gain more points, after a few years being in the basement. Should I reach for say SF?

I say no. 3 years ago I took SF and the Jets the season after they had monster points, didn't work out for me too well. This past season the Niners played a lot better and I don't expect them to have that same drop as when they burned me but I would hold out till the later rounds for a still solid but up and coming defense like the Bills or Packers.

I snagged the Texans off waivers and STUCK with them regardless of matchup. They helped carry me to the championship game.

I always pick up Defense and Kickers last. There's too many good potential boom players to pick up. Besides, with Defense I always like to "play the matchups" by picking up a team from the waivers.

You could perhaps make the argument for a team defense but I fail to see any reason at all to take a kicker anywhere except the last round. The difference at the end of the season between the top kicker and a mediocre kicker will only be about 3 points per game.

The later rounds are much better used picking up solid handcuffs and sleepers.

All it takes is one stupid person to reach on a defense or kicker and it will cause a mass panic and run on those 2 positions. Happens to me all the time in my work league. Last year it was defenses in the 5th and kickers in the 6th.

I once had the idea that I was going to play ANY defense that went against Jay Cutler last year. The idea behind that was Culter took something like 52 sakes the year before, so I was playing the percentages.

It never really worked out as I was less committed to it after some guy took the Atlanta defense in the middle rounds.

Not sure this answered your question, just thought I'd bring that up.

I'll never forget my first ever fantasy draft. I was co-managing with a friend who may or may not post here. We did absolutely zero research until the morning of the draft. Zero. I had pretty much just a vague understanding of how this worked. Another friend of ours was driving down from Waco to Austin for the draft and he called me on the way down to see if we were ready. When asked who we would take in with our first pick (late pick in a 16-team league), I said "I dunno, but Vanderjagt had the fifth most points (or however much it was that year), so he may be a good pick". We were very lucky our friend didn't drive off 35 he was laughing so hard. A week from Saturday, my draft won't truly begin until he fires off the joke reminding me of this conversation just like he has in every draft in the 12 years since.

Opened a fantasy book for the first time ever that morning! Had no idea the strategy. Lucky enough for us we had a good enough friend to let us know that would've been the mistake of a fantasy lifetime.

If your comfortable taking them early do it. I reach on both kickers and defenses every year. Its worked very well for me. I like taking the players I want rather than waiting till the end and getting whats left over.

I'd take megatron #1 overall. Juilo Jones will be a top 5 receiver this year barring injury. I'd also take aaron hernandez if I couldn't get Gronk early.

I had a friend this year that messed up and somehow managed to select Ed Reed with the 3rd overall pick! Then he went and picked the wrong Adrian Peterson! Lol

    I finally got a trade:

    Steven Jackson and Sammy Bradford

    for

    Eli Manning and Trent Richardson

I'm still loaded at RB with giving up S-Jax and Trent could become a solid number one in the long run, I liked this move for me cause now I don't have Palmer as my starting QB and still have players to deal if I want/need a major replacement anywhere.

Yeah I'd take Manning and Richardson over the Rams any day.

so i have the 9th pick in a 10 man league.... my problem is with that pick theres no true stud that you should grab... more and likely MJD or Chris johnson would be there at that pick. Should i grab one of those 2 or go something completely different? i know RB depth is low this draft. maybe a staff/gronk?

    McFadden or Peterson.

    Roll the dice.
