This is what is wrong with politics. How can you root for the Dems trading up to form a Super Team. The rich get richer.

    We need competitive balance.

I think the Republicans should just tank this election and go for a high draft pick.

Plenty of my Republican friends seem to be taking victory for granted. Go figure. All I'm saying is Obama doesn't even need to waste time even thinking about Clinton... he wouldn't be able to change the minds of his loyal masses if he wanted to.

I think Nate Silver is probably the agreed-upon odds maker these days and he's got Obama at a 70.7 chance of winning as of this moment (Romney has a 29.3 chance).

All summer long the popular vote has looked close, anywhere from Obama up 7 or 9% to Romney up 5%; most aggregates have Obama ahead by 2-3. Real Clear Politics has the most popular polling averages and they have Obama up by 3.7, which is an enormous lead in the popular vote. I suspect though that that number is inflated by an outlier of a Fox Poll that put Obama up 9 and that the race is closer to tied. For now. In the popular vote.

But Obama has exactly the race he wanted now and Romney has been playing defense since he wrapped up the nomination. Obama has him on his heels.

And the electoral map, as you suggested, is another thing entirely. It's hard to create a map (www.270towin.com) that doesn't have Obama winning around 300 electoral votes. For Romney to win he needs Florida, Ohio, Colorado, New Hampshire, and North Carolina, each of which is a swing state and each but NC that leans Obama right now. And even that's not enough. He still has to pick off one of the following: Virginia, Iowa, or Nevada. Even with his underwater approval ratings, Obama is an almost prohibitive favorite on any electoral map.

It's also worth considering that polls show Romney is the most unlikeable major party nominee in memory and that Ryan is the most unpopular VP pick since Dan Quayle. Which brings me to the most important dynamic about this race:

We're about to see Obama the campaigner again. He's a fighter and a good one and he frigging hates Romney. Just like everyone that's ever run against him has.

From his failed senate race, to the gubernatorial, to his two presidential bids, people just don't like this guy. And people that run against him have a special hatred for him. He won the nomination by default (like Kerry or McCain) but people do not like this man. And nobody but a millionaire believes that he has their best interests at heart.

Some people might not agree with Obama but they like him. That matters more in presidential contests. It just does.

They had the top 2 picks and look what they've done with them. They drafted Ryan Leaf AND Tony Mandarich in the same draft.

    LOL!

On subject I think having Hillary Clinton on the ticket would be a marginal benefit to the Obama campaign. As other posters have noted I think the Obama campaign wouldn't do it because it would appear desperate and might be distracting.

Personally I don't like Biden. I find his folksy shtick annoying especially when he was doing confirmation hearings in the Senate and I think he is an opportunist and not all that bright. I was also a Clinton supporter in 2008. All of that said I don't think Obama needs to or should drop Biden from the ticket.

I think Paul Ryan is a better VP asset than Biden is. But switching horses now would hurt Obama. It would open a whole new flank for Republicans to attack and really wouldn't bring much additional benefit. Clinton comes with a lot of baggage and would probably bring at least as much energy (and probably more) to Republicans trying to keep her out of office as it would to Democrats trying to get her in.

If Obama were to dump Biden, he should do it for a strong up-and-comer. But, I don't see anyone like that in the Democrat fold, so Biden it is.

It would be a bad move at this stage...admitting a mistake that big. However, what baggage of Clinton's is there still to air? She's been in the national spotlight for 20 years. She's a known commodity and likely would have been the better choice 4 years ago.

Ehh Paul Ryan has more upside simply because his narrative is not written yet. Having said that, there is A LOT to attach Paul Ryan on, and his weaknesses are a poor contrast with Romney.

I do not like Biden but his skeletons are already know, and his folksy bumbling uncle act is a good contrast against the more serious and younger Obama.
