    Condolences Refman. Tough day.

I'll have my dog Beta drop a bone in the creek tonight for Refdog.

All of you have been awesome in this thread. Some of you have posted your own stories about your pets. I do not mind...I encourage it. When I started this thread, I knew people would post their stories. It helps more than you know. We all deal with things like this differently and the benefit of your experiences helps. This is also the first time I have lost a pet while having surviving pets.

All of our pets were either rescued from the street or from a shelter where they euthanize. Refdog was rescued from a shelter by Refgal before they put him down. He was slightly deformed and they could not adopt him out. His time was up, and Refgal took the kids to get a dog. They took him, so he could have a chance at life with a loving family.

12 years later, he is gone. I take solace in that he knows he was loved.

    Why am I not surprised?

Seriously what is it with such a piece of **** comment. Must be wondering why people have friends too right?

    Take your filth else where.

A dog isn't a kid, but it's not a rock either. It's a companion that shares a lot of good times with the family.

It's not your place to question other people's sadness - unless you're mentally weak and insecure.

Please. Don't. Quote. A troll. Thank you. Most of us get to never see his posts.

Yeah I've been going back and forth regarding that all week. It comes down to quality of life and money.

Each transfussion is $1,000 and he'd likely need those monthly, if not more often. That's not including other drugs he'd have to be on. At some point you have to cut the cord. Obviously I'd love to spend a few more years with him but this past week has been very rough on me and I don't know how much more I could handle.

    Thanks for the advice though.

Refman, it was just last week that my wife started singing a modified version of "Cinnamon Girl" for our 3-yr-old dog that is cinnamon colored.

At the "I could be happy the rest of my life..." we both looked at each other and gulped b/c we know that day is coming. As in, not so much "rest of my life." It is truly tough.

We co-evolved as species, literally. There is an incredibly special bond there, and your grief is understood. All best wishes to you and Ref-family.

Refman, I am very sorry for your loss. Dogs provide such joy to their owners' lives. They become a part of the family. Your dog no doubt lived a full life, filled with happiness and love, enriching your life and those of others. Dogs are truly loyal companions and positive influences by nature. Your sorrow is shared by me and all pet owners here.

"This soldier, I realized, must have had friends at home and in his regiment, yet he lay there deserted by all except his dog. I looked on, unmoved, at battles which decided the future of nations. Tearless, I had given orders which brought death to thousands. Yet here I was stirred, profoundly stirred, stirred to tears. And by what? By the grief of one dog."

(Napoleon Bonaparte, on finding a dog beside the body of his dead master, licking his face and howling, on a moonlit field after a battle. Napoleon was haunted by this scene until his own death.)

I had to put down my dog two months ago, its was very sad watching my dog stop breathing.

Also this is a sad (but beautiful) song, that was actually written about the author's dead dog, Im always very sad when I hear this song. :(

The song is called "The very last time" and its from Alan Parsons.

    is this real life?

it's a troll. it ain't a real person or something

I've always found people who are so attached to trolling to be mentally weak and insecure. It explains why they value the high they get when others feeds them each day.

Wow. That is a tough one. I wish you the best on this decision. Before you do anything, just make sure you have really thought it through.
