I'm making fun that when one wants to sensationalize something, you call it a tax. Otherwise it's just a fee.... like to get a driver's, hunting or fishing license. Why not a voting license? Not every American gets to vote....

Are you aware of this nation's histories and poll taxes? And funny that a conservative would bemoan the sensationalism of paying more taxes.

IMO, I don't think a picture ID is an unreasonable requirement.

Remember when all TV went digital and the Gov did everything it could to make sure that everyone who would need a converter box got one? Do the same thing here.

If it worked for TV, of all things, it'll work for voting and ID’s. There's no reason that ANYONE should be disenfranchised because of a need to properly identify themselves.

This is a silly argument. No reason why both sides of the aisle shouldn't be able to see the merit in each other's cases and work together. Pitiful.

Solve the problem first then pass the law. Don't pass the law right before an election so you can win it.

You really shouldn't be calling anyone a troll.

yes, and that is what we are doing, making fun of the right how they say everything is a tax.

Anything that might hamper someone from being able to vote is considered against the law and should be unconstitutional.

All your labeling and square-pegging will get you nowhere.

So what is next, Trader_J, to "protect" the integrity of the voting process and to "protect" it from fraud, even if that fraud doesn't exist? Intelligence tests? That's the road you are going down, Trader_J. I thought such a stance would be beneath you. Apparently not!

Certainly don't pass it for 2012. That is less than 3 months away.

15th Amendment: Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

Voting Rights Act: prohibits states from imposing any "voting qualification or prerequisite to voting, or standard, practice, or procedure ... to deny or abridge the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or color."

yup - if you want this law then the law has to demonstrate how people without voter ids will be able to obtain one in a way that does not impede their ability to vote.

That's why all these laws will be overturned in court. they violate the voting rights act of 1965

So I assume you oppose the 24th Amendment and approve of poll taxes?

Curious question. If you don't have an ID, where not required, do you have to prove your identity in any way?

Going to the right polling station and knowing your name and address is pretty good proof of your identity.

Let's keep in mind it works 14,999,999 times out of 15,000,000

    WTF, Seriously??

The U.S. Constitution stated in Amendment XXVI, which was ratified by the states in 1971:

"Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.

Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."

Why not require more than something I can get out of a phone book, or public property records?

We have a voter ID law in Georgia. It would seem so weird to not need something to verify yourself.

His comment was that nothing should interfere with anyone voting... I challenge the wisdome and truth of that.
