When you are arguing over $2.67, you are really reaching. Do you not see this?

When you have interpreted my arguments to be based on $2.67 then we really have nothing else to discuss.

Actually, you're arguing over $10-$15 (which you, for some reason, distributed over multiple years). And the 24th Amendment of the Constitution was implemented because the equivalent at the time of $10 today was considered an unreasonable burden and something that disenfranchised the poor. So it does seem something worth arguing over. Do you believe in poll taxes and repealing the 24th Amendment?

There were 120 million votes cast in the last election. I await your evidence of this widespread fraud that puts our Democracy at risk.

As a starting point, have folks present their voter ID card/paperwork in order to vote.

Actually, I am fine with everyone being required to have a photo ID if they want to vote. The $16 (I distributed it as a per year basis because that is what the annual equivalent of the cost would be...) is irrelevant. If it solves the problem, I say we waive the $16 for ID's and add that incremental cost to DL holders.

How many more per location? I'm betting not many.

    Rasputin12 is a cute touch.

It is indeed hard to kill trolls 'round here. They just get up again, much like Chumbawumba's Tubthumper.

Not that this has to do with the several arguments that have been laid out for you in this thread -

But let's do a bit of math, shall we?

Currently around 72% of the population in Texas is registered to vote. Current population is 25,674,681. This means that around 18,485,770 voter ID cards would be in play and at $10.00 per person = $184,857,700 not including ancillary costs which apparently do not exist/matter to proponents of a voter ID.

In the City of Houston there are 8 DMV offices and an estimated need for 1,544,505 voter ID's. This equates to around 193,063 per DMV location for the initial round or approximately 530 per day, per DMV, if they were open every single day of the year.

Have you been to the DMV in the last 10 years?

Again, this is not my primary argument - but this constant ignorance of the facts and the resulting impact of such laws is frightening. This is the same lack of foresight that I have come to expect from modern day "conservatives".

But 90+% already have IDs.

And you'd only need to replace it every 10 years or so, so not everyone would need one simultaneously.

Then only 53 per day at your local DMV (if it were open 365/7days a week).

    Woohoo!

Now you are assuming 100% of registered voters actually care about voting. These same people who need IDs, are probably also amongst those less likely to vote.

Doesn't everyone eventually get a voter registration card when they register to vote? Simply have them submit a picture at the time of registration (similar to how you apply for a passport) and have everything laminated and mailed back.

Varies a lot by state. Getting a copy of your birth certificate isn't easy you have to write to the hospital and get a copy. then you have to get a S.S. card which is about a half day process. Hard if you live on a thin paycheck. Finally, you have to get a license which in NY state is $60. That is a day's pay for some people. Not to mention the time off of work and the cost of getting there.

All so you can exercise YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT.

When you start taxing people to breath air and to take a dump, then come back and tell us what is moronic. A republican for what is essentially a tax on the poor to vote. how "Ironic". ha!

Why would you have to write the hospital? Have you ever gotten a copy? I know in Georgia they don't come from the hospital. We can get ours from the Department of Public Health, or go to our county probate court. Now, it will be much easier to get the ID, since you need the ID to get your birth certificate.

SSA office is slow, but if everyone has to do it, I don't consider that a problem.
