Yeah, you're right, it was 2003 that the 2K series ended/changed its name. Do you have a source for this?
Still the same core engine, which is where their problem lies. They should take a page out of NFL 2K's series and redesign their whole core gameplay.
The core game play was fine on the previous generation. Ever since they put madden on 360 and ps3 it has been a complete failure. I wish they would just go back to the old engine and update the graphics.
Um Real-time physics is going to make a huge difference. You won't see a completely new engine until the next xbox/playstation....1 or 2 years.
The first video doesn't show the physics implementation. They were "hiding" it until E3. That video was more Madden 12 than Madden 13, to show the new commentary audio only....Pre-Alpha.
No, SCEA makes it. I don't think 989 has been around for a while, but they made the original MLB games on PS1.
MVP '05 was the last MLB game from what I remember. I think MVP 06 was college baseball. Wasn't a bad game, but needed a bit of work (only had a few real stadiums then some more generic stadiums, only like 50 teams to choose from etc). Would have been nice to see where it could have gone, but there isn't much money in college sports games.
Technically, 989 is SCEA. They were merged into SCEA though (around 2000ish I think), and renamed SCE San Diego. Not sure there really is a difference in the studio, other than the name.
Demo came out today.... Downloading it atm...kinda excited due to what people are saying about this year's installment.. We will see!
I hope Connected Careers isn't buggy. It sounds epic. I've barely touched NCAA in anticipation. That's never the case.
I'll download the demo when I get off. From roughly September - March, playing Madden and golfing for money is almost like a PT job for me. I would love it if they added a 'house rules' option that would automatically end the game once you get up by 21 on a user opponent.
The new franchise mode sounds bad to me so I'm passing. You can't edit players at all this year which further dampens my interest.
Downloaded this first thing when I got up today. It feels alot better then past Maddens. For instance, on fumbles the ball gets kicked around instead of morphing straight into someones hands... or you'll be running and the defender will make a diving tackle and only be able to grab your leg and your player tries to keep running and break out of the tackle.... I've also seen defenders knock each other off the player they're trying to tackle... pretty new feel to Madden which is a plus. I saw one video where the RB tried to hurdle a defender that was on the ground... his foot hit the defender on the ground and instead of morphing through the defender and completing the hurdle, the RB trips and the tackle is credited to the defender just like real life. Nice touch. Still some flaws, but if we had a perfect game there would be nothing else to really look forward to now would there?
I can see that being annoying for certain people. Madden seems to do a pretty good job of updating rosters. Ratings look to fluctuate a lot in franchise now since you can use XP to increase ratings, players ratings change depending on the system, etc... I think it's a good move and I'm a sim guy.
