i'll state up front that I don't particularly like handguns, and almost certainly would never have one in the house, much less some sort of automatic weapon. although i grew up hunting, and had shotguns on my bedroom wall as a teenager (ammo stored separately), i'm intellectually drawn to the idea of some sort of gun control. that said, here's an interesting thought experiment: weed and meth are both illegal. how has that fact affected supply?
Here's an interesting thought experiment. Having a fully-functional M1A1 battle tank in your backyard is illegal. How has that fact affected supply?
I don't think guns are as easy to produce on one's own as weed or meth are. Nor do I believe most gun control advocates want a complete 100% ban on firearms.
Gun control advocates by and large don't want all guns banned. They just might want stricter and regulated conditions for usage. Just like mar1juana legalization advocates might not want mar1juana sold indiscriminately (to kids for example). It's just stupid that there's a political atmosphere where guns have so much more laxer controls than mar1juana.
To the cool bro who posted this in my rep You should probably grow some far thicker skin to help you deal with the cruel, harsh world of counter-factuals and false premises when you leave the nest.
Gun control does not equal 100% ban of all civilian-owned guns. Honestly the system is fine right now. Maybe more thorough background checks and tests during a gun purchase, but other than that let those that are well-trained and well-disciplined to own weapons. I'm still against the thought that everyone owning a concealed weapon in public would lower crime rates.
i am sure people smoke less weed because it is illegal than if it were legal. I don't support making mar1juana legal because i don't want to be around a bunch of stoned people and smell the stuff everywhere i go. But I do think it's stupid to throw someone in jail for it too. decriminalize it with fines and regulate it's production. prohibition did cut down significantly on alcohol use. I imagine making it illegal to drive drunk actually has cut down on drunk driving...go figure! Fact is, gun control laws do work and the states with the most strict laws have the lowest rate of gun deaths. it's a statistically significant relationship. YOu don't need to ban them, just make the laws so that you prevent the following: 1. Reduce improper use and storage of guns 2. Limit ability to obtain a gun on the spur of the moment 3. Prevent people from getting guns used for assault or to kill mass numbers of people 4. prevent crazy people and convicted felons from getting guns 5. Prevent carrying concealed guns to public places that would be high risk - gathering points and bars. 6. Make sure to tag guns so they can be traced back to the last owner
Drugs are self-destructive. You make the choice yourself and accept the consequences. Someone who goes on a shooting spree is taking away the choice not to be dead.
I recently saw a picture of a newspaper headline from some town on another site. Both stories were on the front page I believe, but one said 'Man gets 10 years on mar1juana bust' the other said, 'Man gets 10 years for child molestation'. I may not have the quotes exactly right, but you get the message. I not really for gun control, but I am for the US taking a close look at sentencing guidelines and getting many non-violent drug users out of jail so they can fill them back up with the criminals that deserve to be there.
kids in Texas, smoking grass ten year sentence, comes to pass misdemeanor in Ann Arbor ask the judges, why?
This is extremely terrible logic and completely false. Drug abuse does affect other people. If I frequently used any medium to hard core drug, it would eventually start effecting someone else. Not everyone is a rock star and can afford an expensive habit. Addictions lead to desperate measures, such has taking guns and robbing people. Me shooting a gun all day long affects nobody as long as I do it responsibly.
I honestly think people should be able to have a gun in their home for self-defense if they are storing it properly. I do think that in some cases people are deterred from committing a crime if they know someone may have a gun. But I think the proliferation of assault weapons and people carrying guns out of home is what needs to be regulated more.
As has been mentioned, the obvious answer is that it is incredibly difficult to manufacture firearms. Crystal meth is easy to cook, and mar1juana is easy to grow. mar1juana should be legalized.
While that wasn't me, I am curious to if you are a douche in real life, or if you just play one on internet message boards.
