    Ding Ding Ding!

This is exactly, in a small way, what Kim was getting at in his post.

I sympathize (I've been poor) with those that are poor, but there are ways for those that are creative and willing to work hard enough and sacrifice enough to usually get out.

But that's not what this thread is about. Condolences go out to those that were injured. What a selfish, stupid act.

So you think the guy should have gotten to stay in the place for free?

What if the rent was the main source of income for a retired old lady who would not have enough to buy food if the guy didn't pay his rent?

This isn't in the D&D. I have no doubt mental illness played a part in this, but mental illness changes from generation to generation.

I'm assuming you are not nor have you ever been a landlord otherwise you'd realize how foolish this statement is.

Near. It's sensationalism driven by the current gun scare. Not a big shooting spree, just some wack-job shooting people who were trying to evict him.

I demand that someone goes and measures the EXACT distance to the campus. I don't think that has been discussed sufficiently on this thread.

    Thanks in advance.

It's so crazy that this is news! How dare the media report on a crime where a peace officer and another innocent person were killed!?!? I wish they would go back to telling me who Katy Perry is dating this week.

The mom banger took it to D&D territory and then backs out when he sees that he made some overreaching inflammatory statements. Not that this thread wasn't going off the rails anyways with some weird distance debate that IMA seems unable to resist to chime in with his daily zing. And I also get that terrible things are happening everywhere, so yes we need perspective. But this happening so close to where a lot of us lived sucks, and it unfairly has a greater emotional impact on us than other tragedies of greater scope, but that's life. CSPD does have its fair share of mean cops, but no one deserves to encounter this crap while doing their normal duties (not to mention the poor dead bystander who was just taking a walk). It's freaking terrible, and I'm just glad they were able to put him down so we don't have to waste tax money on this dangerous man.

Of course he does. Thadeus believes that if you rent a house and then can't pay you should be allowed to stay. If that means the landlord defaults on some of his bills, oh well. In fact, a better solution would be to take the money from someone else and pay for the guy's rent. He is after all a poor soul with valuable guns he could sell! And then if he goes nuts the right solution would be to hunt the landlord down and kill him instead of the guy with the guns. After all, he should have let the guy live for free in his property!

Thadeus consistently does this. He has openly advocated the killing of people simply because they are rich. And then he backtracks when called out. He implied the same thing in this thread with his first post. Thadeus' solution to his life problems is to kill rich people.

I backed out because it started a pile-on that I thought would disrupt this particular thread too much. My "overreaching" statements were intended as generalizations on the world most of us live in now... but I kept them brief. I wasn't naming an individual at fault, other than the likely-mentally-ill shooter, and pointing out that we have a system where working people die in confrontations like this, and the system plays a significant part in that. Multiple others formed misinterpretations and made demands for an explanation. That's when I backed out - because I didn't want to derail this thread further. You'll note that, until now, the majority of the posts on this particular subject in this thread did not come from me. I did say something that can cause a massive derailment, and when I realized that, I stopped.

I also have no idea what RocketRiver's post was about.

Beyond that, Kim, with your talk about "how close" this was to us - I was working less than a mile away from where it happened (maybe more ... someone else can get a precise measurement). The road to my house was closed off while all of this was going on. I had friends and relatives, worried, calling me to check on my well-being.

...and that's what it's more important to talk about in this thread. If I have any further comments that may prove inflammatory, I'll start a thread in the D&D.

It is a worldwide story because the rest of the world thinks that we are gun carrying lunatics. It isn't like this is the only shooting to happen in the last few years.
