When I was a constable I executed evictions (writ of possession). I'm surprised this type of violence doesn't happen more often. I was compassionate with the people I had to forcibly move, so much so that I was replaced by another deputy. On his first case he accidentally evicted the wrong residence and got fired. Just saw a report of the shooting on France24. They described College Station as "a few miles northwest of the state's capital, in Houston."
Woah! That was almost 24 years ago!!! As a matter of fact, I was born 5 days before that article was published! So, did that deputy really try to make it look like a burglary, or did he just not give a damn when putting the stuff back? Or both? One would think a police officer would accompany the constable to the house.

I'm implying that a system that places profits above and beyond any other human value is necessarily damaging to the majority of people who have no reasonable way to escape that system. I'm not implying anything about this particular landlord.

How poor have you been in life? Honest question. Look, I get a lot of what you say because other than banging everyone's mom, you do have a consistent message on this board about the plight on those who have not in this country. The thing is, even dirt poor free lunch in this country is still better than other countries where profits aren't in theory placed above all other human values. And this case, I just don't see how you can make a connection that you're always ready to throw out. Sometimes there are just nuts out there. And sometimes people don't pay rent, and just not because they have no reasonable way to make rent. I do agree that there are a lot of flaws in our society, but coming from free lunch welfare dirt poor minority earlier in life, I can attest that not everyone is trapped in the system. There is irresponsibility, there is crazy, and there is lazy...it's not usually the case, but it's there. And yes, it's tougher in many ways nowadays to make it out, but b/c of the tools and technology available to more people than ever, there's more different opportunities too. I generally like your message, but in no way would I think "oh poor renter getting evicted" when the dude goes bonkers and shoots down cops and bystanders. This person has issues, and that's on him, not our supposedly over-profit driven society.
