So I went to the ShakeShack location in Madison Square Park for the first time this past weekend, and the burgers were really, really good. Definitely better than Five Guys, and I like Five Guys a lot. Apparently they just opened one in Center City Philly, so I'll probably be hitting it up with some regularity.

Gotta respectfully disagree as to ShakeShack. I can't think of a more overrated burger joint. Not Five Guys, not In-N-Out, not Carls jr.
Shakeshack was basically a glorified Steak n Shake burger imo.

Went to 5 Guys in Round Rock for the first time. It was ok, nothing spectacular. I still prefer Freddy's and Mighty Fine. I don't understand the love for their fries either. Why do I need an entire bag of them? Then it was $27 for 2 people.

That was my first and last visit...

I don't mean to single out only your post because everyone does this, but isn't this an average price for 2 at a sit down burger restaurant? I haven't been to Austin in a while, so I looked up the Freddy's/Mighty Fine menus. $7-10 burgers, $2 fries, $2 dollar drink.

This is pretty much in line with Five Guys, Smashburger, Becks Prime, Fuddruckers for chains. Also in line with local Houston places such as Hubcap, Lankford, Christian's, Burger Guys, etc.

If someone doesn't like a place that's cool but then to complain about the price doesn't seem to be taking the competition into account.

Typically, my family of 4 will eat at Freddy's for about $25-28. My wife and I will meet at Mighty Fine on occasion for lunch (or I'll take a client) and it's typically $20 for 2.

    5 Guys - $27 for 2 people
Freddy's - $28 for 4 people (and that typically includes at least 2 shakes)

I actually happened to run across a Five Guys this past weekend. Had never been and kept hearing about them, so I gave it a try.

Agree with the first post: burger didn't seem to have much flavor. For the $6 I paid just for the burger, there's no way I'd go there again. For $6 I expect more than "meh". I'm okay with "meh" for like $2.

The fries, however, I really liked. Best fries I can remember having outside of a sit-down restaurant.

Don't listen to him. Food is awesome except for the tiny ass fries. Get the guac steakburger with pepperjack, its amazing. Peanut butter banana shakes great.

Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich might be the best fast food sandwich in FF history. Now that the All-Stars are on the menu for good, there should be no debate about the best fast food burger.

I like 5 guys and Inn-n-out, but they def get better hype cause of hipsters.

Non-fast food burger, I'd go with Becks

In-N-Out has been dethroned as America’s favorite burger chain

    Bye-bye, In-N-Out.

There’s a new king of the hamburger hill.

Five Guys has replaced In-N-Out as the top burger joint, according to The Harris Poll’s annual EquiTrend Study.

This is the first time Five Guys has been crowned the champ, dethroning In-N-Out, which held the top spot for each of the past two years.

Still, the West Coast-based chain dropped just one spot to No. 2.

The study asked respondents to rate brands based on familiarity, quality and how likely they are to consider purchasing its items.

“The burger brand category has become less fragmented, as regional brands expand and become available in more parts of the country,” Joan Sinopoli, vice president of brand solutions at The Harris Poll, said in a statement. “This is certainly the case with Five Guys, who has shed its ‘small regional player’ designation as it expands its footprint and marketing budget along with its fandom, which is a tremendous contributor to brand equity.”

McDonald’s earned top marks for familiarity.

Notably missing from the rankings were Burger King, Jack in The Box and Carl’s Jr.

The first Five Guys opened in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia.

The chain is known for its burgers that are grilled in front of customers and for offering unlimited toppings.

Five Guys began expanding beyond the Washington D.C. area in 2003 and now has roughly 1,500 locations across the country.

As the chain grows, Americans’ awareness of Five Guys has increased.

In 2013, 48 percent of respondents were familiar with Five Guys, according to The Harris Poll.

Today, that figure is 68%, with Five Guys reaching 81% familiarity among Generation Z and millennials.

Five Guys should be king. They're charging 9 bucks for a 5 dollar burger.

    Whataburger
    Five Guys
    Shake Shack

    That's the list.

    In-N-Out is awful.
