I just read that the Bucks signed Pryzbilla as a backup last week. And it made me wonder what the Rockets are going to do for their backup C position. It's obvious Asik is the starter but who's going to back him up? Or are they going to have a backup at all? Will they just use one of the PFs (i.e. DMo, PPat) to play center when Asik gets in foul trouble?

    Thoughts?

Morey said last week in an interview that he plans to use a 4 as a backup 5 because that seems to be the trend in the NBA now.

I think Morey said something like "We'll have some unconventional 5's". So maybe we'll just play small ball when Asik is on the bench.

I didn't know that. Interesting. I'm not sure I agree with that. I couldn't stand when Patterson was playing center at the end of games with Dalembert on the bench.

Luis scola and patt, I thought it was Mchale's idea. That duo was horrible together. Thanks for the remainder.

I'm hoping good stuff for the rockets even though we didn't get a superstar and then I hear something stupid like that. Who is the coach?who is running the show?

Ya, Morey basically said they'll play D-Mo or Patterson at backup C:

While I don't like the idea of playing either Patterson or Motiejunas at center, it's probably the best option at this point.

Obviously you'd prefer those guys playing at PF, but with the amount of PFs on this roster it makes more sense playing Patterson or Motiejunas at center than would signing some minimum guy or playing a guy who may be better suited at C, but not quite as talented as our PFs (i.e. Greg Smith, Josh Harrellson).

    Pretty much.

If Morey cared he would've kept Camby and/or Dalembert.

So you're one of those that believe he wasn't really going after Dwight Howard or Bynum

DMo is the obvious answer. I don't think there is a 7-footer in this league that doesn't play "C" at times.

I see the Rockets being fairly "positionless" next season to be honest with you. You look at the roster and there is a ton of flexibility in the way you can arrange roster lineups.

You could potentially even see this lineup together at some point-

    -Parsons, Morris/Forbes, White, T. Jones, Patterson/Motiejunas

All 5 guys are interchangeable athletic players for the most part and can switch defensively on every player, and the offense can run through 4 out of the 5 guys on the court. What you are lacking in the front court you are more than making up for in athleticism, speed, and versatility. Pretty fun group to watch, and could be elite defensively.

And to be honest with you, I dont think the Rockets really NEED a backup PG at this point. I would almost rather just rotate out these players, and have Parsons/White facilitate the offense when Lin is off the court-

    Lin
    Martin, Lamb
    Parsons, White
    Patterson, Jones
    Asik, Motiejunas

    nice little 9 man rotation

Look at how good Miami was last year even without running a true center for 90% of the time. The Rockets could be a very youthful version of that team at least defensively.

I would like to see another true center added to the roster if there was one out there, but I wouldn't pay money for one. If Fesenko comes at the vet min., you can find one in the D-league, or Greg Smith turns a corner than thats an ideal situation as a 3rd string center for unique situations where you are facing teams that actually have productive centers.

I hope it's one of our PFs. Any/all of them can use the floor time. I hope we don't sign anyone else at this point that doesn't play a role for our 4-5 years plan.

If we have Patterson*/D-Mo as our backup center, the opposing team will just be running layup drills. Not that I'm upset by this, as I favor tanking, but just saying.

*If Patterson plays D like he did last season.

Dirk plays Center occasionally, and Durant isn't 7 foot.
