Brazil performance just blew out the entire London opening and closing ceremony.

No, Chicago didn't get it because Daly was an arrogant, overconfident, cheese-headed jerk who thought he could bully and intimidate the IOC. This is straight from the mouth of an IOC member that has been friends of my family for many years. It was Chicago's to lose and they did because Daly (basically) single-handedly blew it with his attitude.

A complete shame and the real story will never get out to the general public. The perfect example of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

You can believe me or not but I don't make stuff like this up. Suffice to say that sweet works much better than sour when it comes to coercing the IOC. I'm not going to elaborate further other than to say 2016 really should be in Chicago.

I'm watching it on tv now, west coast taped delay

I enjoyed little things like Madness and Pet Shop Boys appearance.

The super models thing fell flat, cuz it was just them by themselves not doing anything. Too formal. If they actually had David Bowie performing the song, it'd be SOLID if not EPIC

    Can't hate on Annie Lennox

    Lennon tribute, nice touch

(More to watch) So far this does seem more a beefed up extended Super Bowl halftime show. Maybe that is the point.

    But its not THAT bad.

English culture gave us our language, our system of government, Shakespeare and the f-ing Beatles. Saying "England culture is overrated" is not only grammatically incorrect, but it's also like saying life, itself, is overrated.

Freaking DIRECTV signal problems here for an hour on NBC

Just saw the handoff to Rio performance. I thought it was nice, don't think it stood out much from the rest of the ceremonies.

Though its hard to match South American passion and energy. Compare that with Brit 'stiff upper lip' style and can see how the contrast comes across well.

Looking ahead, Rio might even be worse in organization, but they'll make for it in pure spirit. And I think London will look better in retrospect.

    "FML" then

most ppl didn't hate the ceremonies at beijing/sydney/barcelona, in fact they loved em......it's nice for the host nation to share and celebrate a bit of their culture, but three (3) continuous hours of british pop is a bit much. and it was not tastefully done, to say the least. also, wtf do 'west end girls' or 'if u wannabe my lover' or a george micheal song about record label commitments have to do with olympic sport??

I made that comment at the early stages of the ceremony. I already stated that the 2nd half/last third was good.

Although hating on ceremonies every 4 years is different to the everyday hate on certain players, teams.

Closing ceremony made up for everything. I was dancing and singing the whole time, and then the Spice Girls came out, and I cried. I never wanted the night to end, but it did, and life without Oasis and the Pet Shop Boys has to go on.

What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger.

I can only laugh at the vitrol for NBC and Great Britain that has been spewed the last two weeks...

I enjoyed the games. I don't care whether or not they put on a good opening/closing ceremony and I'm not going to judge the olympics on that. I don't care what NBC did - everything was live online anyway. I can't believe there has been such a collective hissy-fit over all of this. It's not those complaining bought tickets and saw a crappy concert.

I can agree with this...I didn't care for the Opening/Closing Ceremonies, but that's not really the whole point of the Olympics anyways. I watched everything on TV and was happy with the daytime coverage (once I figured what was playing and where/when) and again the delayed primetime stuff didn't bother me (and I pretty much was never spoiled).

My other definite problems with NBC had nothing to do with London though. And as an outside observer, there didn't seem to be any major security concerns and the attendance issues seemed to be taken care of after the first few days.

Loved the Olympics. Man I miss living in Britain! Lived all over the world and nothing beats it! Definitely going back next year.

I just read that in the US, they cut several moments of the closing ceremony? I read that they cut the Who, and Muse to show something else? I read they showed The Who, but an hour later.

Is this true? If so, thats why most people think the ceremonies sucked, because of the bad NBC coverage.
