I've never really understood the "it's such a big time-waster" argument. You think you spend too much time on there? Okay. So spend less time on there. I have an account myself, mostly just because it's an easy way to get ahold of people I've lost track of, or to organize events. I log in once every couple days for about 30 seconds. Big whoop. Now, if ya got privacy concerns, totally understand that. But it's only as much of a "waste of time" as you choose to make it.
Never have had a FaceBook, never want one. If I want to talk to a friend, I will text them. Why message them on some site when I can instantly text them?
I deactivated mine about a month ago. I dont have any urge to get back on either seeing as 95% of my friends on there are old classmates or people i dont know too well. REAL FRIENDS/ FAMILY I stay in contact with via phone or in person
It's just the "cool" thing to say. A lot of people use social networking when board and it really isn't wasting much time unless you sit on it all day. Definitely not wise to run to a message board to say facebook is a waste of time. I guess posting on a MB could also be said to be a waste of time.
Yeah, if you and all the people you know live around you. I have friends and family all over the world and Facebook is a great way to keep in touch and remember each other.
If it weren't for the fact that there are some friends and family that I wouldn't keep up with any other way, I would have gotten rid of Facebook by now as well.
I stopped using it last year around June, but my son signed in and left his page open on my laptop a couple of weeks ago. What happened? It looks like complete trash now in comparison to what it used to be. Couldn't believe my eyes. Reminded me of 3-4 years ago when I first looked at MySpace and Facebook and thought MySpace was trash in comparison. My opinion was Facebook is invincible and was guaranteed to be the dominant "social networking" site for at least 10-15 years because of it's incredibly broad and deep saturation worldwide. I still feel that way but not quite as strongly. It's downright ugly now in addition to annoying.
Read their terms of use. They don't actually delete anything. All the information is there if they want to access it again. Nothing that is posted on the internet is ever "deleted."
yeah I agree. 5 hours in Facebook is the same big time-waster as 5 hours in clutchfans. or 15 mins in facebook, is the same as 15 min in clutchfans. Both sites are for entertainment. and you can control how much time do you "waste" in those sites.
Facebook acts more as a contact manager for me at this point. It's not bad if you use it correctly. If you use it to keep in contact with people you shouldn't like an ex, people from high school who you couldn't care less about, and assholes you aren't really friends with it can make your life hell. I like the concept of it, I can keep tabs on people from Tucson, see what my parents are up to, my cousins too, as well as I can send updates here and there to the people I don't always get time to talk to. I think the people who end up complaining about it buy too much into it...
