BTW, why even ask the question OP if you already have such a strong opinion. The need to be validated that strong? Or the need to just argue? One or the other obviously....
Sorry, I couldn't get over you saying Scola over Blake. I wouldn't say he's overrated either, he's so universally hated that he's just rated.
Blake needs to work on his post moves but lol @ people thinking he gets all of his 20 points off dunks smh
Position isn't relevant? Does a PG need to have different skills than a C? Of course position is relevant when comparing players.
there's nothing terribly wrong in creating a thread to see where you stand. in this case, Blake camp is in minority and for a good reason. Dirk was a top 5 player just a year ago. He got underrated a little because of his age, but that's a shaky argument. If this was a 28 year old who went through injuries and heavy fever to win a title, and then spent the summer carrying Germany, and then took a much needed rest, starting the season slowly..... noone would care. Dirk is one of the ironmen of the NBA. He barely ever misses games, because he never had major injuries. Once his exhaustion / shape issues got out of the way, he looked better than during his title year. So there's absolutely no reason to write him off as old and declining yet. Blake on the other hand still has a lot to prove and improve.
Dirk is better. Griffin has no game outside of his athleticism. You only pick Griffin if you're building a team because of age.
Blake would bring more fan attention with his dunks, but Dirk is a better player and can do more than dunking.
Probably the dumbest misconception is that Blake can only dunk. You don't score 20+ points on good efficiency by only dunking. He is also a great rebounder and passer. Anyway Blake for reg season and Dirk for postseason. On a contender its Dirk. On a team that is not contending I pick Blake.
Lol at people trying to undermine arguments saying Griffin doesn't get all his points off dunks. OK, you win that round, even though I'm not sure how many specifically said that. Most have said he cares too much about dunking and only using his athleticism. Which he does. There is no arguing that. He hasn't developed really anything now in 3 years. He has got better, sure. But no more than any other guy who has been in the league 3 years. He hasn't mastered (or even attempted it seems) to develop a strong post move. His FT is crap and his shot is worse than it was in college. Answer those things, instead of the easy pickings - "hurr durr, you don't average 20ppg on dunks...."
90% of Blake Griffen's "shots" are easy dunks set up by Chris Paul. So shot % doesn't mean jack shiet. Dirk hands down.
Since win did he become a great rebounder and passer? He doesn't even have box out technique. He's a horrible rebounder.
Bringing Chris Paul in to the equation is a terrible argument considering Blake Griffin averaged 23 points in his rookie season which was without Chris Paul. Let me guess all of that was because of Baron Davis
The guy has been in the league 2 years. It took Dwight damn near five years to develop a post move. It took Amare more than 2 years to develop a solid mid range jumper. He has time to do those things and yes there are people in this thread making it seems like every single basket he gets is a dunk, you even have people giving all the credit to Chris Paul even though he's averaged well over 20 points without Chris Paul.
