I am looking to build myself, and I am sure it is way cheaper to do so than to get it built by a manufacturer
I own a 160GB INTEL SSD drive and it's even not enough. Whatever you do stay away from OCZ SSD drives. Crucial and Intel are the most stable. But if you don't want to spend a fortune on a SSD. Try Seagate Momentus Hybrid HD. Seagate Momentus XT 500GB 7200RPM 32MB Cache 2.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive or Seagate Momentus XT 750GB 7200RPM 32MB Cache 2.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive(a little faster than the 500GB version) or WD VelociRaptor
Too lazy to read through the post. But if you are getting a mid tower case, here's a nice one on sale. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139010&Tpk=11-139-010
I just am not 100% sure on everything yet. I might wait a bit and see what price drops/ bug fixes look like.
Completed my build on my new gaming rig yesterday and so far so good. This thing is an animal. Eats up everything I've thrown at it. Core i5 3570K @ 3.8 Ghz (will up it once I get a better cooler) Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H Asus GTX 670 DCUII TOP 16 GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 Mhz Memory 128 GB Crucial M4 SSD 2 x WD 500 GB Caviar Black SATA 7,200 RPM
So I finally bought some items for my pc build. i5 3570k Processor from Microcenter - $189.99 GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard bundled with processor from Microcenter - $84.99 NZXT Phantom 410 Red Computer Case from Microcenter - $92.94 G Skill16gb of DDR3 1600 Ram From Newegg - $79.98 Samsung SSD 128GB From Newegg - $89.99 Reusing the following from my old PC Build. 600w Thermaltake power supply GeForce GTX 550 ti w/ 1gb ddr5 ram video card DVD optical drive
Nice man. Are you going to over clock that 3570k? It's so easy with these boards that you might as well. Once I bought a better cooler I've now got my 3570k running cool at 4.2 GHz.
probably too late for you but in case anyone else is interested.. if you are rocking one of the newer Z77/H77 motherboards you may be able to use a Xeon instead. The Asrock boards support them natively. (make sure to check the cpu compatibility list!) You save about $100 on the cpu for same specs as the i7 for the price of an i5. Ivy Bridge 22nm, 8MB cache, Hyperthreading, Virtualization etc. The Intel 1240 v2 Xeon is the sweet spot if you can live without onboard video, 1245 v2 if you need it. as far as the fastest SSD setup you can get right now for the price?.. probably an LSI 9207-8i w/ a stack of ssds. Look up the reviews.. I believe it's the first PCIe 3.0 HBA card out but sure there will be some more soon. The review I saw hit 4.2Gb/s with 8 x Crucial M4 SSD's. Theoretical max is 8Gb/s
you couldn't do it before pcie 3.0 so probably not many but now it's available also prices for ssd's are coming down to earth. Didn't Bill Gates say something about not needing more than 128k of ram?
Eh, not the same thing. 8 x SSD's in a RAID is proof of concept, not practical at all. Proof-of-concept setups never go mainstream. e.g. liquid nitrogen cooling, water-cooling, etc... Bill Gates just mistakenly put a cap on the concept of higher ram usage.
you know water cooling is mainstream now right? Plenty of manufacturers are putting out their own closed loop water cooling setups that are plug and play. You can walk into best buy and pick one up. I agree on LN2 since that's just not feasible due to obvious reasons. Also 8 x SSD's are not proof of concept anymore. You can purchase a bunch of cheap SSD's and get the similar aggregate performance due to the new bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 gives you. If cost is the only factor.. then another benefit is just adding drives as they get cheaper. I'm actually moved most of my pc's over to cheap ssd boot drives once 60gb drives were had for under $50.
I doubt even 1% of all consumer computers have water-cooling. Definitely accessible now, but hardly mainstream. 8 x SSD is definitely still proof of concept. Nothing short of a workstation is going to have that kind of hardware. It's feasible apparently, but consumers are as likely to run liquid nitrogen as they are 8 SSD's. A single SSD definitely become mainstream; several companies offer that as a default hard drive.
Lemme know when you are going to play ball again. I played with Paul once, Im trying to get back into shape.
I played adult leagues a few years back, haven't played organized ball in 4 years so you're no worse off then me
I dont know if my power supply can handle that. I ultimately want to either upgrade my video card or get another 550 ti and run sli. I am sure I will overclock later on when I need to, but as of right now I am not sure I have a need to overclock. Also I am sure Id have to get an aftermarket cooler.
I played in a asian league maybe 2 years ago out in Southwest Houston/Katy area (hwy 6 and clay rd?) with my brother. Havent ran organized since. A few small tourneys every now and then, but its been about a year since I have played forreal
