im tired of this discussion tbh.. kareem made strides, regardless if it was him going from a stumbling fool in year one to being a guy who could finally stay on his feet in year two, thats called progression. if you paid attention to individual players you could have seen that kareem was a damn good cover corner, he still had weaknesses but wade was able to hide those weaknesses pretty well.. so what if he only got better because of an improved pass rush, #1cb, and better safety play.. so be it, he had none of that his rookie season, so its dumb to ridicule him for making the most of it his 2nd year.. i expect even more strides in kareems game this year.
It's interesting: Wade is revered around here, and rightly so... except when it comes to his opinion of Kareem Jackson, at which point he apparently morphs into a blathering idiot. If Wade said this about *any* other Texan (other than Schaub and Walter, of course), there'd be chills up and down the collective back of Texan fans. Instead, it's dimissed because somone who does nothing but watch 16 games a season from their couch thinks they know more.
I will take what Wade said as accurate, but he still infers he is a liability on deep balls...that concerns me, but yea - Kareem's short distance coverage and ability to stay close to the receiver improved big-time
He's progressing. Usually corners don't "get it" until the third year. We will see. I'm one of the few KJ defenders since his rookie year since I felt that people were pretty harsh on him. Wade's defense is all about pressure. With our improved safety play and constant QB pressure, KJ's liability on the deep ball is not much of a factor as opposed to when Frank Bush was defensive coordinator.
there was a point in his rookie year which I was wishing we had Demarcus Faggins back. However last year Kareem did remarkably improve. I don't know what % of the improvement had to do with the new personel or him actually getting better but I don't give a rat's ass if we can stay in the top 5 in pass defense.
Boy it would be awesome if Kareem came around, McCain keeps improving, and Harris/Carmichael turn out to be quality players. Or at least 1 of these scenarios panning out.
kareem looks fluid.. broke up a 3rd down pass from cam, putting a blanket on steve smith, that endzone coverage was too nice, and something has to be said when cam was standing in the pocket looking downfield for 3 seconds. out of the game now but nothing but positives..
That looks like a quote from Vance Joseph the DB coach, not from Wade Phillips http://blog.houstontexans.com/2012/04/04/vance-joseph-talks-kareem-jackson-young-cbs/
Yup you are right. THought it was Wade. Regardless, I'm surprise everyone WANTS to write him off. I'm almost cheering for him to become a pro-bowler, and then leave the Texans and say it's because of the fans and media. I don't know why he gets all this hate though. He does all the right things. He doesn't open his mouth, and keeps at ti.
Because every team needs a whipping boy. I know there were a LOT of factors going against him, but the fact of the matter is he was horrible his rookie season. Once a player has that kind of rep, it's pretty difficult to shake. Here's to hoping he does it this season. I hope that poking fun at KJ ends up being a funny, ironic meme. I'm still gonna do it though. Just too used to it.
He did look good today and actually seemed to keep his eye on the ball, something he never used to do.I think Joseph has taken him under his wing and really turned him around.
This is what bugs me though. It seems like any time he has any sort of success, it is attributed to someone else. (ie wade's scheme, front 7 pressure, JJo's mentoring). No one really credits Kjax for putting the effort into learning the proper techniques, and working it out. Remember, he was under heavy heavy criticism right from the get go, and still managed to turn himself around.
