I don't think S&Ts will work for next offseason.

January, huh? Maybe February or March? The Rockets might just have spared themselves of a huge headache by not getting Howard.

They do, they just don't get you a 5th year, or max raises. If Bynum wanted a team without max cap room, a Sign and Trade would be necessary. Teams over the luxury tax I believe are precluded from Sign and Trades after this season, or something like that.

Where is that cyberx guy who supposedly had inside information? Maybe he can shed some light on this.

Right. Sign and trades won't be impossible, but they're a lot more difficult and teams probably shouldn't bank on them. Because the vast majority of interested parties will either be teams that are already under the cap (and thereby would have no reason to do a sign and trade, since Bynum can't get any extra money), or contenders who are always in the market for a star and in the tax. Only a small group of teams are in between. Possible, but much more risky than before.

Aside from his knees, the other concern with Bynum is whether he's a legit No. 1 option. You pretty much know what you'll get defensively - he's a good rebounder and merely decent shotblocker who doesn't move particularly well away from the basket. Overall, he's just not elite on that end. To be a $20 mil/year type player, he needs to be an absolute force on offense... and that's a big risk to take, considering he hasn't been a No. 1 option thus far.

If you're going to pay max-plus money under this CBA, you need to make sure you're getting max-level production... much remains to be seen on Bynum. He'll make the Sixers a good team, but he might prohibit them from becoming a great one, depending on his development.

    You may have missed <A href="http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=7113372#post7113372">this post</a>.

You can claim there was a conspiracy for Dwight to LA and there was no interest in Bynum, but what is more logical though is that in Orlando's view, Houston's offer wasn't enough compared to what they got.

All Orlando should care about is the return. Maybe they liked Afflalo so much more than Martin, or thought Harkless was head and shoulders better than Jones or whatever young player the Rockets offered.... but in Orlando's view, Houston could have offered more -- and they didn't.

If it's true that Dwightbaby won't be playing until January or later, I'm glad that the Rockets didn't because they probably would have had a much more difficult time trying to get him to stay with him being out most of the season, and probably just a hard of a time if they tried to trade him at the deadline with the same situation.

    Time for:

    Lin/whomever
    Martin/Lamb
    Parsons/White
    PPat/Jones
    Asik/Donuts

We will have some fun watching this team even though they won't win many games, but they will probably have a few upsets that are noteworthy throughout the season.

Btw, hope Jones starts though cause Asik and PPat don't seem like enough O for even a bad team.

Then that just makes Rog Hennigan a fool. I'm sensing another fall guy for the Magic like Weisbrod, in 2 years they might have another GM again just like last time.

I'm glad the rockets made the decision they made, but a conservative offer from the rockets would have still been better for the magic. Morey was never going to throw everything at Dwight. The offer would have been fair

Quote from Kobe, when asked if DH will re-sign: "I'll play 2-3 more years. And then the team is his I'm excited for the Laker franchise...(cont)

..."they have a player that can carry the franchise well after I'm gone. It should be his. He should be willing to accept that challenge."

LOL at Orlando who has been trying to get something that worth almost the same value for Howard back but they just got a bunch of veterans and really didn't help their team at all. I think Philly had the best deal out of everyone because all they gave up is Andre Iguodala and got Andre Bynum and J Rich.

Why didn't I think about the fact that I was working friday, the morning the trade went down?

    Go away rookie.

I've got the balls to call it, the balls to back it, and the balls to come back on here and take it.

Dwight should be here. Morey is going to verify that, as much as he possibly can. This whole sordid mess came down to Fegan and Howard manipulating Martens. It wasn't Hennigan. He's too smart to have made this deal over what Morey offered him. IT was clearly Martens and it goes back to last season's trade deadline. And Fegan and Howard roped hard on Martens and got him to cave. Otherwise, Howard is here.

No matter how you slice it, no matter how you look at this trade, David told you the truth. The single Toronto lottery pick is better than anything and everything Orlando got out of this deal. Next fact, Orlando got at best and I question even that, the fourth best asset, while two other teams got the second best and third best assets. What GM in their right mind would do that? Answer: NONE OF THEM! This is all about Martens and the trade deadline last season and Fegan and Howard roped him.

Even if you feel like Clutch does that Morey low-balled Orlando......look Morey would have to put up Martin and Patterson and nothing else to low-ball Orlando over what they got back in this deal. Any other low ball attempt that includes just ONE of Lamb or the Toronto lottery pick trumps this deal. There's no way around it. Martens caved to the demands and I think Fegan has him blackmailed. Totally ridiculous and no other reason that Howard is not here.

Then maybe you should have negotiated in earnest back in June? Maybe?

Orlando waited until Brooklyn called it a day, waited until Rockets signed Lin and Asik, and took a horrible deal in the end.

Did Hennigan seriously expect the league to put the entire offseason on hold for him? I hope Magic fans explode watching the Rockets rebuild with all the pieces they COULD have had if their GM made a deal by draft night.

Hennigan is a numbnut, Rockets could've taken on bad contracts even with Lin & Asik.
