This thing really might never have been in the Rockets' control. Very few people thought it was worth giving up the farm for an uncomitted Dwight, and it sounds like we made an offer just short of that. Martin, two of our first rounders, the Toronto lotto pick, an unprotected Rockets' pick far in the future, and taking back a couple of bad contracts ...that's about my limit. I just hope Parsons wasn't the deal-breaker :)

There seems to be a small snagg - Moe Harkless cant be traded until 8/23 30days after he signed his rookie contract.

I'm not hugely disappointed, I worried about the cost, the re-signing, the back issues, Diva issues and the bad contracts. But I would have done it.

I'd guess all the above set a line Morey wouldn't cross and ours was a take it or leave it deal. In all the wheeling and dealing that went on to get his deal done, the Magic probably thought they were 'workin' it'. They got taken by all the power players letting them think they were empowered.

Damage control, yes. Spin, not so sure. I think it is clear that Morey stuck to his guns. I think it is possible that a larger offer would have tied our hands as far as being able to keep and build a contender around DH, that compromising our offer would have made the deal "not worth it" in the long run. With that said, I still think what we were rumored to have offered is a better deal than what Orlando accepted - even those that did not want DH can agree, no?

He can be traded... he signed on July 9th, not announced until July 23rd.

I thought the trade call was supposed to be this morning? Seems like there's time for it to blow up.

Zach McCann: A guy's house gets robbed. Tough break. But worse: He checked his camera days later & found the robbers dipped his toothbrush in the toilet. now

yes, orlando's own pick is the most valuable in the non trade.
BUt the remaining contracts they have and the ones coming in set them up with 20m+ in cap space and expiring contracts next year. Making them a huge player in free agency..
so next year they can potientially have the 1st pick in the draft swing a few trades and have an all star on the team. Or they can send out the expiring deals and get more draft picks...

After much thought, this trade for ORLANDO is much better down the road for them

Maybe but if you read the Magic board one of their long insiders is saying the same thing, that we had the better offer and that Fegan threatened alot of things against the Magic and that Devos relented and granted Dwight's wish.

Exactly, that is the worst part of the trade. It is not the fact that the Rockets did not get DHO because I think all of us as Rockets fans will like no matter who puts on the Rockets uniform and are willing to go with young guys.

So good point that they pulled the trigger on that pathetic trade just so that have other free agents (through their agents) consider Orlando.

Just like it appears some agents are anti Houston now whether that is because of Morey or whatever the reason it does not matter because Morey is doing his job but apparently the power is with agents.

I received my NBA League Pass renew this week. Will be canceling and will only watch our young kids play. No interest in the super teams whatsoever.

    Go Texans.

You're pathetic that you want to hold it against someone who wants to see their team get better and win.

I'm ready to hear the new rumors. "Moarey pushing hard for Curry Harden Jefferson and Smith" in 2013

I agree with you Clutch on the spin, but IMO its still the best asset that was ever involved in the deal to ORL other than a healthy, and extended Bynum(which is definitely not guaranteed).

Given the Rockets negotiation history it seems that they kept with their philosophy in making an offer, and keeping it on the table for the other team to bite at the last minute when they become desperate, and in that philosophy they are typically able to get quality deals based on those factors of negotiation and the use of timelines.

The issue here is Alex Martins if he truely was the one pulling the strings. Maybe Otis Smith got a bad wrap from the Turkaglo/Richardson type deal and others that seemed to be made way too early and wreaked of desperation. Its possible that the owner and president just have zero patience and its really destroying their franchise in the long run.

The Magic will not be a good team, but they also will not be as bad as some might think.

    Nelson/Afflalo/Turkaglo/Davis/Vucevic & a bench with Harrington/Harkless/Reddick etc.

will keep this team in mediocrity for a long long time. Those picks they got... seriously.... are basically 2nd rounders. Most have heavy protection that will keep the Magic from ever getting a quality player in that draft range. And this is coming from the team that has probably the worst draft history of any team in the middle of the pack in recent years.

Say what you want about the Rockets missing out getting either Howard or Bynum, but I feel terrible for the fans in Orlando. They are really getting screwed. Even if they didn't truely have that great of an offer from the Rockets as what is being advertised in the media this morning to make Hennigan look bad, but they still would have been better off just letting Dwight walk in free agency, and rebuilding the right way rather than putting their fans through mediocrity for years to come.

Either way, the Magic have screwed themselves in the worst way.
