Rubio is overhyped and overrated. He has no confidence in his shot. Defenses can sag on him at will. Plus, he's quite skinny and gets beat up badly on the few occasions that he tries scoring going to the basket. He's close to Jordan's height and weighs 35 lbs. less. He's going to have to get bigger and stronger as well as massively improve his shooting to take another step up. This Rubio in the HOF talk is just goofy.
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/jason_kidd/ Unless NBA.com is wrong, this is not my behind. I wasn't talking about Kevin Love but here you go also http://www.nba.com/playerfile/kevin_love/ J-Lin http://www.nba.com/playerfile/jeremy_lin/ John Calippari interview on Lin @10:50 mark. I never said he was right, he could be wrong about his height. http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/...alipari-previews-UK-Ole-Miss-talks-Jeremy-Lin
I really do hope that Lin becomes more of a jump shooter from here on out. If he wants to go into the paint, he should do a Steve Nash ring-around-the-posie and assist someone. Serious. I really hope that Lin starts considering his longevity in the game. There are a lot of whack ass thugs that are gonna flagrant foul him, and I've already seen more than enough times where his knees buckle when he lands because of the purposeful contact. McHale put a clamp down on his dribble drives before Lin gets himself a bad ACL injury and is out of the league in 1 year.
It doesn't matter what's officially listed, lol. Teams list whatever heights they want to, often with shoes, often adding another inch on top of that, if not more. JKidd and JLin are both about 6'2" add an inch for shoes. Rubio probably is around 6'4" add an inch for shoes. I get conflicting reports on jordan and barkley. Jordan is somewhere between 6'4" and 6'5", listed at 6'6." Not quite 6'6" in shoes.
Yeah more jump shots and floaters would decrease contact. Wearing pads around his midriff as well. It would be cool if he were to train a little bit with Nash or Parker or something. Both those guys are effective at getting to the rim while limiting contact. I know Kidd mentored Rose in the off season. And I believe, although I maybe mistaken, that Rondo and Russ worked out a bit as well.
Yes, I agree - Lin was the heart and soul of the Knicks and was pretty much doing everything, from scoring to getting his teammates easy buckets. Lin was making everyone around him better and was usually the go-to guy in close game situations in the fourth quarter. So, I too would say that Lin was the most valuable player on that team. Melo and Stat are great scorers but don't do too much of anything else. I've seen Melo make some great passes sometimes and has the ability to be much more than just a scorer, but he hasn't really reached that potential. As for Tyson, I love that guy. He has a limited offensive game, but his specialty is really defense. And his leadership on and off the court is invaluable. Tyson did achieve his best career shot percentage (.679) this year and ranked above all centers in this category, but in my opinion, was able to achieve this to a certain extent because of Lin who got him quality shot attempts with his pick and roll action. In general, Lin made the team run beautifully and with his unique abilities/skill set effectively maximized the use of the role players. For example, up until Lin emerged, Novak was a relative unknown mostly sitting on the end of the bench and getting little playing time. He had been bouncing around the league playing for minimal money until Lin turned him into a dangerous offensive weapon. Now, Novak was playing a much bigger role and, for the first time, got his first (relatively) big pay check: 15 million over 4 years.
same thing with kobe. there was a pic with kobe & usain bolt in the olympics & kobe was not taller than bolt who is 6'5. The nba has to put a stop to this.
Love is 6' 7.75": http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/34789/kevin-love-and-height-liars-in-shoes
Kobe is in that same 6'4"/6'5" range, as is vince carter. JJbarea is listed at 6'. Pffft. Shaq is 7'1", Yao 7'5", Garnett 6'11" The Dream 6'10". Kobe himself said he was 6'4" and change--I believe him. But he's listed at 6'6."
Lin is treated differently than those guys, both by refs and by players. Lin has taken some of the nastiest hits I've ever seen in this league. He's either got to choose his spots better or punch someone to defend himself. He cannot continue indefinitely as it is.
I just hope that the Rockets will have a guy there for Lin so that he can last in the league. I don't want to see this kid get injured or burned out. There's more to life than basketball. Boring and effective is still good in my book, and I wouldn't ever fault him for taking that route.
I don't think Rubio is 6'5". That's Jeremy Lamb's height. Rubio didn't look 2 inches taller than Lin.
I've heard Lin say himself that he's 6"4 (with shoes) - he said it in the interview with Steiner. And I don't think he would lie about this. Yes, Kidd is 6"5 (with shoes). It's very possible that Rubio grew an inch and it didn't get changed on his NBA profile. I know Shumpert said that after his back muscles were somehow stretched, he gained an inch because of this. Also, I remember hearing Paul George say that he grew a bit last summer and is now 6"10, but the NBA profile still lists him as 6"8. I think sometimes players look shorter and taller that others that are the same height because of their frame, body structure, and muscle mass.
Me, too, didn't know Rubio's FG% until now. I know that he became the target of a lot of teams. They were getting really physical with him and I had read that it negatively impacted his scoring. Apparently, his team even put in a complaint about this. Like imarealballer said, Rubio just needs to strengthen up and gain some muscles. In the few games that I've watched him play, he would get knock down by screens and the slightest bumps.
