    Every year it's the same thing. Oh no without Chuck Hayes we are doomed! Oh no I can't believe we traded Brooks! It's not different this year. We lost some good players but let's be honest. We have been a non-contending team with interchangeable pieces. It hurts to lose Scola because he was the heart of the team. It also hurt to see Dragic go. Let's be honest though. Lin and Patterson can fill in and put up similar numbers to them and I promise we can still get that 14th pick we so love. Asik will surprise many and I think we might even sneak into the playoffs.

    Lin/Martin (Healthy and Happy)/ Parsons/ Patterson / Asik is better than our line up last year. This will be Martin will not be playing next to Bu(no d)inger and Scola. The fact that he sucks on D is no longer a huge liability. Parsons and Asik will balance that out.

    It's all null and void though because this team is not finalized yet.

    OK, fair enough. It's certainly possible that this team finishes a bit worse than last year's squad.

    The point is that we will be nowhere near the level of epic suckitude that it will take to be in the hunt for one of the top three picks, and that anyone who's opposed to a trade for Dwight because they think we can get Noel, Muhammad, or Zeller instead is way off base.

    As others have noted, this one reeks of "hey Houston, we're gonna do this. I swear. I'm just about to do it. No really. Here I go ..."

    [IMG]

    **** or get off the pot, Hennigan.

    From the framework:
    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--l...rade-talks-to-send-dwight-howard-to-l-a-.html
    Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA
    Orlando's Jason Richardson has been significant name in 4-way talks too, sources tell Y! There's a scenario where he goes with Howard to LA.

    Orlando
    In: Gasol, Afflalo, (DEN/PHI draft picks) -->$26.8M
    Out: Howard, Richardson -->$25.3M

    Los Angeles
    In: Howard, Harrington, Richardson-->$32M
    Out: Gasol, Bynum -->$35.1M

    Philly
    In: Bynum -->$16.1M
    Out: Iguadala, draft pick(s) -->$14.7M

    Denver
    In: Iguadala -->$14.7M
    Out: Harrington, Afflalo, draft pick(s) -->$14.4M

    *: Other players involved but not yet disclosed
    I would bet good money that Orlando would be sending out at least one other bad contract. Within this framework, they're adding to payroll, not relieving it. Even with a pick being involved and Bynum being a rental, they're making like bandits in this deal.

    ** draft picks
    DEN should have their own 2013 as well as NYK's 2014 firsts
    PHI should have their own 2013
    All 3 picks are expected to be outside the lottery.
    Denver has the GSW and POR 2nd rounders in 2013
    Sixers have the Hornets 2013 2nd rounder

    But I look at this in black and white: is Orlando's net in this scenario worthwhile? Is it better than a one-one deal with LA, Hou, ATL? Is it better than the forever-rumored 3-way with Houston?

    If the end result is:
    Gasol, Afflalo, marginal cap savings, dumping only one (or two) bad contract(s), and getting 2-5 (non-lottery) draft picks.....is this really a move Orlando wants to make?

    If so, have fun. Orlando will be a virtual landfill of poison pill contracts and crummy D-list youngsters.

    I'd say we had the same record every year because for each step forward we took (like picking up Courtney Lee), we took a step back (like losing Chuck Hayes). Maybe if we could have had the same number of minor offseason victories but fewer offseason losses, we'd have been in the playoffs.

    But, this year is different. We've had many big offseason losses and very little in immediate benefits. Somehow, we'll see Lin put up Dragic-like numbers and Patterson will put up something Scola-equivalent, and Lamb will make us forget about Lee -- and somehow, our record will be a lot worse than we've seen in quite a long time.

    What's this thread about? :p

    I hope Dwight gets traded soon.
    I stopped caring a long time ago.
    If he joins the Rockets, fine.
    I hope he gets traded to the Bobcats.

    Tony Mejia: Not saying it won't happen. Gasol would, if nothing else, become attractive trade piece, but it's not scenario I've been told Magic covet. about 2 hours ago

    Morey must be laughing his ass off. ORL desperate and Morey won't budge. Good for him.

    Couldn't have said it any better. Like Morey said it one thing to get the same production from over priced vets but if we can still compete with our young talent on reasonable contracts then its different this being stuck with bag contracts and no flexability....

    I don't see it as a good deal for the Lakers, honestly. Long-term it would be easier to have Howard as a building block than Bynum/Gasol, and that's why they have to consider it... but for a two-year window (end of Nash and Kobe's careers), I think they have a better title shot with Bynum/Gasol than Howard/Harrington. Same goes for Hill, Jamison, or any other mediocre PF they want to to insert.

    Looks like this latest Dwight deal may happen. At least as of right now.

    With all due respect to Rudolph and Woj...

    LOL - yea right because there are all kinds of teams lining up AND can pay what want. Only rumor has been Minny and they don't have anything that would work that they'd be willing to trade.

    Trading for Pau only means you can maybe get picks and some mediocre players from a team that wants to contend now. Whatever package that team can put together is < than the picks we're offering and a rookie and taking 1 of their bad contracts back.
